Shanghai Mingkai Lighting and US Cree Sign Strategic Cooperation Memorandum

On February 12, Shanghai Mingkai Lighting Co., Ltd. and American semiconductor light source manufacturing giant Cree signed a 5-year strategic cooperation memorandum, under which they will implement the "Mingkai Powers Cree Chip" plan. Lu Zeming, Vice Chairman of the China Association of Lighting Industry, Zheng Di, Chairman of Shanghai Mingkai Lighting Co., Ltd., and Tang Guoqing, General Manager of China for US Cree, attended the signing ceremony.

The signing ceremony was held at Mingkai Lighting's production base in Dongyang, Zhejiang. The base is one of Mingkai Lighting's three major production bases, covering an area of 108 mu (approximately 72,000 square meters), with a building area exceeding 100,000 square meters. It will undertake the production of high-tech lighting products such as Mingkai LED in the future. Choosing Dongyang for the signing is Mingkai Lighting's way of demonstrating its production strength and determination to develop LED lighting to Cree.

At the talks, Zheng Di, Chairman of Mingkai Lighting, delivered a speech on the development of LED lighting. He said that Mingkai Lighting has long maintained good cooperative relationships with world-class large enterprises. As the trend of international lighting development, LED will be the main development direction of Mingkai Lighting. The "Mingkai Powers Cree Chip Plan", cooperated with Cree, demonstrates Mingkai Lighting's unwavering determination to develop LED lighting.

Mr. Tang Guoqing, General Manager of Cree Company, emphasized in his speech that Cree Company will provide full support to Mingkai Lighting in developing LED lighting, and made it clear that Cree Company will form an all-round strategic partnership with Mingkai Lighting in various fields such as price, technology, and promotion, to jointly promote the development of LED lighting products.

Mr. Lu Zeming, Vice Chairman of the China Association of Lighting Industry, believes that Mingkai Lighting, as a shortlisted enterprise in the NDRC LED Lighting Product Demonstration Unit Project, partnering with Cree Company, the world's largest LED chip manufacturer, is undoubtedly a good start for domestic lighting enterprises to introduce advanced foreign technology and achieve harmonious and win-win development. LED lighting, as a sunrise industry, has broad development prospects, and taking the opportunity of industrial upgrading to vigorously develop independent brands is a topic that lighting enterprises need to study in depth.

Currently, there is no truly leading enterprise in the Chinese lighting market, especially in the LED field. The market share is relatively scattered, and brand awareness is generally low, which is the objective reality at this stage. Through a series of measures at the end of 2010, including sponsoring a CBA team, being shortlisted for the NDRC demonstration project, and signing a strategic cooperation memorandum with Cree Company, Mingkai Lighting has shown that it is beginning to emerge in China's lighting industry.
