US Implements Recall on China-Made Mosquito-Killing LED Bulbs
Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Creative Sourcing International, Inc. jointly announced a voluntary recall of China-made mosquito-killing LED bulbs.
The recalled product is the HAUS ZapBulb 2-in-1 mosquito killer LED bulb. The 10-watt bulb has a white mesh outer shell, measuring approximately 3.1 inches high, 3.1 inches wide, and 6.1 inches thick. The mesh shell has an insect-attracting blue light, with the LED light below used for illumination. Only bulbs without any markings or labels are being recalled. The product packaging is printed with item number IK3000.
The recalled products were sold at Lowes and other retail stores as well as amazon.com and other online stores in the United States from May 2013 to September 2016, totaling approximately 11,500 units (with an additional 20,000 units sold in Canada), at unit prices between US$70 and US$90. The reason for the recall is that the bulb base may detach from the connector, posing an electric shock hazard. To date, the company has received 2 reports of bulbs detaching from the connector. No reports of personal injury or property damage have been received.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Creative Sourcing to obtain replacement bulbs, including shipping, disassembly, and bulb replacement instructions. If a professional electrician is needed to disassemble the bulb base, Creative Sourcing will provide compensation.
