Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) announced that the laboratory efficacy of its white power LED has reached 303 lm/W, once again setting a milestone in the LED industry. This landmark R&D achievement by Cree surpassed the industry R&D record of 276 lm/W announced more than a year ago, and was achieved much earlier than originally expected.

Cree white power LED laboratory efficacy breaks through the 300 lm/W barrier, further pushing the boundaries of LED performance
Steven DenBaars, Professor and Director of the Solid State Lighting and Energy Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara, stated: "This is truly a remarkable achievement! Achieving this level of LED efficacy will expand the potential of the solid-state lighting industry, bringing smaller and lower-cost lighting solutions, and even achieving more significant energy savings than anticipated."
Cree's R&D report shows that under the conditions of a correlated color temperature of 5,150 K and a drive current of 350 mA, the measured LED luminous efficacy is 303 lm/W. The test was conducted under standard room temperature environment.
John Edmond, co-founder of Cree and director of the Advanced Optoelectronics business unit, stated: "Through relentless innovation, Cree is committed to achieving 100% LED applications. Pushing the boundaries of LED performance is critical to enhancing LED lighting design. The 303 lm/W achievement will bring lighting solutions with higher cost-effectiveness."
