Shenzhen Metro Car Lighting System LED Energy-Saving Renovation Project Officially Completed

Following the Beijing Metro and Guangzhou Metro, the LED energy-saving renovation project for the Shenzhen Metro car lighting system has been officially completed and passed acceptance. This renovation is the first LED energy-saving renovation project for the Shenzhen Metro car lighting system, with traditional lighting equipment in more than 20 train cars replaced by Xinli LED products.

Since natural light cannot be used in the metro environment, artificial light sources must be employed for 24-hour illumination, so the energy consumption of the metro's interior lighting system is even higher than that of its air-conditioning system. LEDs have incomparable advantages over traditional lamps in terms of energy saving, stability, and durability, especially the features of strong shock resistance and long lifespan, which are very suitable for the metro operating environment. After the Hong Kong Metro became the first in the world to introduce LED light sources for metro car interior lighting in 2008, the LED era of metro lighting began.

Shenzhen Metro LED Lighting Effect

　　According to the person in charge of the project, the LED energy-saving renovation of Metro Line 1 uses three models of Xinli Light Source LED T8 tubes, which feature high luminous efficacy, strong stability, and long lifespan, and will save more than 60% of the electricity used for train lighting on Line 1. This renovation project is the first LED energy-saving retrofit of the Shenzhen Metro car lighting system, with more than 20 train cars replacing their traditional lighting fixtures with LED products.

　　It is understood that there are currently about 48 metro lines in China, while 28 cities are building metro systems. In the existing domestic metro network, taking Shenzhen Metro as an example, except for Line 2, which uses LED lighting throughout, the others mostly use traditional lighting equipment. The market potential for LED in metro lighting is therefore considerable.
