China and Saudi Arabia Sign Solar Road Lighting Cooperation Agreement

China and Saudi Arabia recently signed a solar lighting cooperation agreement in the capital, Riyadh. China's Huawei company will install Chinese-provided solar street lights on some road sections in central Riyadh.

The representative of the working group of the Riyadh Municipal Committee and the general manager of Huawei Saudi Arabia signed the project agreement. Chinese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Li Chengwen, Economic and Commercial Counselor Wang You, and Vice Chairman of the Riyadh Municipal Committee Tariq attended the signing ceremony.

Earlier this year, during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Saudi Arabia, the Saudi business community expressed the hope that China would help Saudi Arabia develop solar lighting. According to the agreement, the design and construction of the project will be undertaken by Huawei, with a construction period of approximately four months.

Tariq said that using Chinese solar street lights will provide a successful example for the Green Riyadh Project. Li Chengwen said that he believes the solar street light project will become a good start for expanding China-Saudi cooperation in the new energy field.

It is reported that the implementation of this demonstration project will provide new opportunities for Chinese solar technology and products to enter the Saudi market.
