Chengdu-made LED products receive EU "green card"

　　Recently, Sichuan Xinli Light Source Co., Ltd.'s LED street lamp series products received the CE-RoHS2.0 compliance certification issued by the authoritative certification body SGS. This is the first EU "green card" obtained in China's LED lighting field since the EU issued new regulations on July 1 this year, making Xinli Light Source the first Chinese company to receive this honor.

　　Obtaining EU "access permit" in advance

　　"As the first domestic enterprise to obtain the SGS CE-RoHS2.0 compliance declaration, Xinli Light Source will vigorously promote 'green environmental protection' in the LED lighting industry," said Li Xinzhu, Deputy Director of the SGS Technology Electronics Products Department. This standard will run environmental testing through the production process and component environmental testing. Once this EU environmental "green card" is obtained, products will smoothly enter the EU market; Chengdu enterprises will once again "lead the way" for domestic technology enterprises.

　　According to Li Xinzhu, RoHS2.0, namely the EU Directive 2011/65/EU on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment, officially took effect in July this year and will be implemented on January 3, 2013. By then, all products exported to EU member states must meet the requirements of RoHS2.0.

　　Compared to before, the scope of control under RoHS2.0 has been expanded. In terms of restricted substances, it maintains the restrictions on the six hazardous substances from the original RoHS Directive, while proposing priority assessments of four substances within the next three years.

　　"This honor is equivalent to being the first to obtain market access for LED lighting products in the EU market," said a person in charge at Xinli Light Source. With multiple core product technologies in the technical field, Xinli Light Source has obtained more than 300 patents for rare earth luminescent materials and LED lighting. Some of the LED eco-friendly lighting, guidance and evacuation systems used at the Shanghai World Expo and the Beijing Olympics, as well as the guidance and evacuation systems for Chengdu Metro Line 1, are all "Made in Chengdu."

　　Core technologies enhance product added value

　　According to industry insiders, the replacement of incandescent lamps by LED lamps will promote the third lighting revolution in the coming years. Whether it is the EU, the United States, or China, all have successively introduced roadmaps for phasing out incandescent lamps.

　　According to China's roadmap, starting from October 1, 2012, the sale and import of incandescent lamps over 100W will be completely prohibited; over the following four years, incandescent lamps of different wattages will be phased out in sequence, until incandescent lamps over 15W completely exit the lighting market by 2016. "The global demand for LED lighting products has become a trend, and how to transition from simple production and OEM to proprietary core technology is exemplified by Chengdu enterprises winning their first 'green card' this time," Li Xinzhu also stated. "With core technology, the added value of the products will also be greatly enhanced."

　　A relevant person in charge of Xinli Guangyuan also confirmed that, as of now, Xinli Guangyuan's trade volume from exports to the European region this year has reached over USD 4 million; it is expected to generate several million to tens of millions of euros in revenue for the company annually, helping "Made in Chengdu" LED lighting products further open the door to the EU market.
