Welcoming the G8 Summit – Global Lighting Manufacturers Join Forces to Promote Energy-Efficient Lighting
On the eve of the G8 Summit held in Hokkaido, Japan, and in response to the G8 Summit's initiatives on climate change, global lighting manufacturers gathered in Tokyo for the Second Global Lighting Forum.
Representatives from various lighting manufacturers' associations reached a consensus on cooperation in energy-efficient lighting and mitigating climate change.
They agreed to work closely with governments and consumers, promoting the application of more energy-efficient products such as commercial lighting and home lighting through regional initiative activities.
They signed a joint communiqué aimed at achieving high-efficiency lighting, such as gradually phasing out inefficient lighting products and promoting more high-efficiency lighting systems.
Jan Denneman, Chairman of the European Lighting Company Federation, commented on the meeting: "Lighting industry associations support the G8's adoption of energy-efficient lighting measures to mitigate the impact of climate change. We have been carrying out numerous regional energy-efficient lighting initiative activities around the world, because the use of energy-efficient light sources has a very significant effect on reducing carbon dioxide emissions."
Russell Loane, Chairman of the Australian Lighting Council, said that the Australian lighting industry will continue to work closely with other industry associations and governments around the world to promote good CFL products.
A representative from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said: "We welcome the contributions made by the Global Lighting Forum to global energy conservation, and coordinated cooperation on a global scale is an indispensable way to achieve global energy efficiency goals."
