Fluorescent lamps face a new development turning point

  On April 20, the National Standards Publicity and Implementation Conference on Rare Earth Lamp Phosphors and the Rare Earth Luminescent Materials and Market Report Conference were held in Zhuhai. The conference was organized by the National Rare Earth Standardization Technical Committee and the National Rare Earth Phosphor and Lamp Cooperation Network, with co-organization by Zhuhai Omec Instrument Co., Ltd. in Guangdong Province.


  Wu Hong, Director of the National Rare Earth Phosphor and Lamp Cooperation Network, emphasized in his address the need to improve the quality of rare earth phosphors used in lamps, so that the phosphors can play a greater role. The price increase of rare earth phosphors and the revision of this standard should be regarded as new opportunities and challenges for the development of the fluorescent lamp industry. Zhu Yuhua, Chairman of the National Rare Earth Standardization Technical Committee, delivered a speech discussing the characteristics of the revised standard and pointing out that the standard system needs to be further improved.


  The report conference was convened against the backdrop of the country's recent increase in rare earth resource taxes by more than 10 times, and the implementation of the "National Standard for Rare Earth Tri-Band Phosphors for Lamps" beginning on May 1st of this year, which is of great significance for the healthy development of the rare earth phosphor for lamps industry.


  Huang Ruitian, Sales Department Manager of Jiangmen Keheng Industrial Co., Ltd., as the main drafter of the standard revision, gave a report on "Standards and Reference Samples of Rare Earth Phosphors for Lamps and Their Test Methods,"


  Wei Lan, Senior Engineer and Deputy Chief Engineer of Xiamen Tongshida New Materials Co., Ltd., gave a report on the standards and reference samples of rare earth yellow phosphors for white LED lamps and their experimental methods, addressing the scientific and reasonable nature of the technical standards and test methods.


  Xia Wei, Professor-level Senior Engineer and Deputy Chief Engineer of Dalian Luming Luminescent Technology Co., Ltd., gave a report on the standards and reference samples of rare earth long afterglow phosphors and their experimental methods.


  Li Qian, Deputy Director of the Research Institute of Hangzhou Yuanfang Optoelectronic Information Co., Ltd., gave a report on the standard testing methods and equipment for the optical and colorimetric properties of phosphors, and provided explanations on the standardization of testing techniques and secondary characteristics for three types of rare earth luminescent materials.


  Professor Tang Yinxuan, General Manager of Hangzhou Daming Fluorescent Materials Co., Ltd., presented a report on the analysis and outlook of the market demand for China's rare earth fluorescent materials in 2011,.


  Chen Yousan, Senior Engineer and Director of the Technical Center of Xiamen Tongshida New Materials Co., Ltd., delivered a report on the influence of the alumina (Al2O3) synthesis process on the structure and performance of BAM. The report described the relationship between alumina matrix materials and the conversion efficiency of synthesized BAM bimodal blue phosphor.


  Dr. Zhang Fugen, General Manager of Guangdong Zhuhai Omec Instruments Co., Ltd., delivered a report on particle size testing technology and its application in the phosphor industry. Regarding how to obtain the optimal particle size distribution for coating, several different testing methods were discussed, clarifying that different testing methods are used for phosphor particles of different size ranges, together with their proprietary technologies and equipment with independent intellectual property rights.


  Liu Ronghui, Senior Engineer and Deputy Director of the Rare Earth Luminescence Division of the National Engineering Research Center for Rare Earth Materials and Grirem Advanced Materials Co., Ltd., delivered a report on the current status and trends of white LED phosphor technology and applications. The report systematically clarified the status and development prospects of YIG phosphors and oxynitride applications for white LEDs.


  Zhao Kun, Senior Engineer and Director of the R&D Center for Luminescent Materials at Sichuan Newlight Source Co., Ltd., delivered a report on the application of new phosphors in white LED packaging for lighting. The report introduced a new technology that uses phosphor technology with AC drive to solve LED flicker.


  Tian Yuwei, Senior Engineer and Chief Engineer of Jiangsu Zeming Fluorescent Materials Co., Ltd., delivered a report on the development of "high-brightness, long-afterglow" red phosphors. The report described the company's latest scientific research achievements in this field, with the brightness and afterglow time of this phosphor reaching new levels.


  Wu Hong, Director of the National Rare Earth Phosphor and Lamp Collaboration Network, delivered a report titled "Development Opportunities and Challenges of Rare Earth Luminescent Materials and Energy-Saving New Light Sources." The report reviewed the development history and achievements of rare earth phosphors for lamps, pointed out that under the situation of dual growth in rare earth taxes and rare earth product prices, phosphor enterprises should further improve their cost-effectiveness, and put forward targeted suggestions for future development.


  These reports are rich in content and basically reflect the achievements in theoretical research and technological progress of the phosphor industry in recent years. In particular, the reports concerning standards reflect that phosphor products have entered a standardized and normalized stage of development from an extensive one.


  The delegates also visited Zhuhai Omec Instruments Co., Ltd., and were deeply impressed by the particle size testing technology and equipment developed by the company. Over a hundred representatives from rare earth phosphor and energy-saving lamp enterprises, together with nearly a hundred relevant experts, attended the report meeting.
