DOE Releases Latest CALiPER Report on Outdoor Area Lighting
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) CALiPER program has released a new report, this time focusing on outdoor area lighting, evaluating luminaires, parking lot lighting, floodlights, and more.
Outdoor area lighting accounts for a significant portion of energy consumption in the United States and is also one of the key markets for solid-state lighting to enter.
LED outdoor area lighting is part of the LED Lighting Facts® label program database and has consistently held a large share in the lighting category. As of August 29, 2016, area and roadway lighting products account for 15% of the database, while the other two product categories account for approximately 4%.

Report highlights:
Outdoor LED area lighting products encompass a wide range of output types and light colors, capable of meeting various lighting needs.
At the same light output, compared with a 1,000W high-pressure sodium street light (approximately 100,000 lumens), LED products can all provide higher luminous efficacy.
At different correlated color temperatures (CCT), LED outdoor area lighting products exhibit an extremely wide range of luminous efficacy.
