Cree Launches Higher Brightness, Higher Efficiency Plant Lighting LEDs
Cree (NASDAQ: CREE) recently announced the launch of the XLamp XQ-E and XP-E High Efficiency (HE) Photo Red LEDs, optimized for horticultural lighting applications, delivering higher performance.

These two new LEDs provide up to 21% higher output compared to the previous generation XQ-E and XP-E Photo Red LEDs, helping horticultural lighting manufacturers achieve higher performance products while reducing fixture size and lowering system costs.

By adopting Cree XQ-E LEDs and combining them with our company's proprietary AlumOxide technology, our customers can develop outstanding horticultural lighting fixtures with power consumption only half that of traditional HPS high-pressure sodium lamps, with smaller size and lighter weight than existing technologies. The higher-performance Cree XQ-E High Efficiency (HE) Photo Red LED will help customers quickly reduce the power consumption of their existing product designs and provide a faster return on investment cycle."

Cree's XQ-E High Efficiency (HE) Photo Red LED sets a new performance benchmark, delivering up to 5.39 μmol/sec of Photosynthetic Photon Flux (PPF) at 85 °C in a package of just 1.6 mm x 1.6 mm. The output-to-package-size ratio of this new XQ-E LED is more than double that of competing products.

Cree's XP-E High Efficiency (HE) Photo Red LED delivers up to 6.08 μmol/sec of Photosynthetic Photon Flux (PPF) at 85 °C and is the first LED to break the 1 W radiant flux barrier at 85 °C.

"Our technology enables customers to develop higher-performance, longer-lasting luminaires, accelerating the adoption of LEDs in this emerging horticultural lighting application. At the same time, Cree will continue to provide the industry with a broader, horticulture-optimized portfolio, including white, Royal Blue, Far Red and many other color options."






The XQ and XP LEDs for horticultural lighting are based on Cree's ceramic-based high-power technology and deliver an R90 lifetime of more than 100,000 hours at 105 °C. At the same time, horticultural lighting manufacturers can continue to use their existing drivers and optics compatible with the XQ and XP platforms to accelerate time to market.
Cree's XQ-E and XP-E High Efficiency (HE) Photo Red LEDs are now available for sample requests and can be produced in volume with standard lead times.
