Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry Achieves New Breakthroughs in Overcoming OLED Lighting Technology Challenges

The Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has achieved a series of research results in fluorescent/phosphorescent hybrid white OLED research, overcoming the technical challenges of OLED lighting. The related results have been published in the international journal "Advanced Materials".
Currently, OLED lighting has attracted great attention from academia and industry. Since the stability of blue phosphorescent materials has not been resolved, fluorescent/phosphorescent hybrid emission is recognized as the best approach to realizing OLED lighting applications, and hybrid white OLED has become a major hotspot in the field of organic light-emitting research. In 2006, the United States proposed the idea of adding an interlayer between the fluorescent and phosphorescent emitting layers. Although the luminous efficiency was improved, the device structure is relatively complex and the spectral stability is poor.
With the support of projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and our province, researcher Ma Dongge from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry and others have doped blue fluorescent materials with higher triplet energy levels into bipolar blended host materials, and prepared high-performance hybrid white OLEDs without adding an interlayer between the fluorescent and phosphorescent emitting layers. This interlayer-free hybrid OLED structure is relatively simple, with not only high luminous efficiency but also very stable spectra, having good practical value in lighting applications.
