Crafting exceptional light, understanding you better | Unlocking the path to healthy, smart, and aesthetically pleasing home lighting
In our daily lives, light is everywhere, yet few people truly “understand light.” From children’s room lighting that protects vision, to living room scenes that create ambiance, and bedroom lighting that promotes restful sleep, a good lamp can bring far more changes to a family than we imagine.
On April 21, Ms. Hong Xiaopeng, Product Director of Lite-On IoT Technology Co., Ltd., was a guest at an industry salon. Under the theme “Craftsmanship Creates Great Light, Great Light Understands You Better,” she provided an in-depth analysis of current trends in home lighting, user needs, and practical solutions.
As an industry expert with 15 years of product experience, Ms. Hong excels at user insights and creating best-selling products, with extensive hands-on experience in healthy and intelligent lighting. Below is a summary of the core content from this salon:
Trend Insights:
New Changes in Home Consumption Are Reshaping Lighting Needs
At the beginning of her presentation, Ms. Hong shared two sets of the latest market data, revealing the fundamental shifts currently underway in the home lighting industry:
1. Upgrading Living Spaces: Improved Floor Plans Become Mainstream
According to monitoring data from the China Index Academy, among residential transactions in 30 key cities, the share of units measuring 120–144 square meters has risen from 19% in 2016 to 30%, while the share of 144–200 square meter units has increased from 7% to 11%.
Corresponding to this trend is the evolution of living room layouts: in improved floor plans exceeding 140 square meters, open-plan designs account for as much as 57%, reflecting a clear shift away from traditional reception areas. The space is no longer merely a status symbol but can be flexibly reconfigured for activities such as watching movies, reading, or spending time with children, making natural light and spatial connectivity core priorities.
2. Evolving Consumer Attitudes: Paying for Value Has Become Common Sense
As revealed in DT Business Observation’s “2025 Youth Consumption Research Report” and Hurun’s “2026 China High-Net-Worth Individuals’ Quality of Life Report,” today’s consumer market exhibits several distinct characteristics:
◇Age Structure: Post-95 consumers’ spending grew by 24.8% year-on-year (YoY), gradually becoming the main purchasing force, while post-80 parents prioritize practical value;
◇Urban Distribution: First-tier cities show the most pronounced consumption growth, with over 40% willing to pay for quality upgrades, followed closely by new first-tier and fourth-tier cities;
◇Payment Logic: Good quality, health benefits, and essential lifestyle needs are the three primary factors driving purchases, while attention to aesthetics and brand steadily increases from post-80 to post-00 generations;
◇Consumption Direction: Maintenance-related spending among high-net-worth individuals rose 26% YoY, shifting focus from material goods to service experiences and health value.
“People aren’t afraid of buying expensive products; they’re afraid of buying products that don’t deliver value,” said Ms. Hong. As a fundamental component of home spaces, lighting’s health and experiential value are increasingly recognized by consumers.
Technological Foundation:
26 Years of Industry Experience Bringing Classroom-Quality Light Home
As the company that has ranked first nationwide in LED lighting exports for six consecutive years and holds the top sales position in China’s educational eye-care lighting sector, Lite-On has been deeply engaged in the lighting field for 26 years. Ms. Hong explained that Lite-On’s superior lighting technology originated in educational settings:
1. Validation in 500,000 Classrooms: Eye-Care Technology Clinically Proven
Over the past decade plus, Lite-On has retrofitted more than 500,000 classrooms across China, with its lighting products installed in four out of every ten classrooms, safeguarding the visual health of over 100 million students.
Its eye-care effectiveness has undergone clinical validation by authoritative medical institutions:
◇Tracking by Peking University’s Institute of Child and Adolescent Health shows that schools adopting Lite-On’s healthy lighting environment experienced a 12.9% reduction in the incidence of new myopia cases;
◇Tests conducted by Shanghai Eye Disease Prevention and Treatment Center indicate that one hour of exposure to Lite-On’s visual light factor products resulted in higher retinal and choroidal capillary blood flow density compared to standard AA-grade desk lamps, further promoting visual health.
2. Five Core Technologies Defining Standards for Great Home Lighting
Building on its technological foundation in educational lighting, Lite-On has introduced classroom-grade lighting standards into domestic settings, establishing a system characterized by “close to sunlight, bright yet non-glaring, warm light and shadow, smart and convenient,” supported by five core technologies:
◇Light Factor Technology: Achieves high spectral fitting accuracy, producing light that closely mimics natural sunlight while balancing circadian rhythm regulation and high color rendering;
◇Scene-Based Light Recipes: Presets color temperature and illuminance levels tailored to different usage scenarios, balancing eye health with user experience;
◇Optical Structure Design: Employs 3D prism panels, honeycomb grids, and other structures to deliver high illuminance, excellent uniformity, and superior anti-glare performance;
◇Original Exterior Design: Leveraging a national-level industrial design center to craft product aesthetics that combine beauty with nuanced light and shadow effects;
◇Smart IoT Technology: Enables intelligent control, multi-ecosystem interconnection, and automatic scene switching, ensuring simple and stable operation.
Scene-Based Solutions:
Covering All Home Spaces, Adapting to Evolving Needs
Many families encounter two core pain points when designing lighting: first, changing household dynamics—growing children and elderly relatives bring new lighting requirements; second, renovation constraints—small apartments, lack of suspended ceilings, or existing finishes make it difficult to adjust basic lighting.

To address these challenges, Lite-On has launched a comprehensive home lighting solution covering four major spaces and eleven scenarios, breaking through renovation limitations and catering to diverse aesthetic and functional preferences:
1. Children’s Room: Growth-Oriented Lighting from Age 0 to 18
Addressing the specific needs of children at different developmental stages, the children’s room solution features multiple scene-based light recipes:
◇Study Scene: Neutral light at 4000K with high illuminance evenly covering the entire desk surface, meeting precise visual demands for reading, writing, drawing, and crafts;
◇Bedtime Scene: Warm light at 2700K gradually dimming over half an hour, paired with a low-brightness sensor bed light strip to foster independent sleep habits;
◇Nighttime Scene: Low-brightness sensor night light that avoids glare and disruption to sleep, satisfying children’s nighttime needs.
“I’m a mother of three myself, so I deeply understand parents’ concerns. Good children’s room lighting must not only meet immediate visual needs but also grow alongside the child,” shared Ms. Hong.
2. Dining Room: One Table, Two Moments
In response to the growing trend of multifunctional dining rooms, the Firefly series pendant lights offer adaptable scenarios:
◇Focus Mode: Classroom-grade eye-care three-dimensional light evenly illuminating a 1.4–1.8 meter dining table, easily convertible into a desk for homework assistance or temporary office use;
◇Gathering Mode: 1800K breathing light effect creates filter-like ambiance, suitable for dining, birthdays, parties, and other occasions.

3. Bedroom: The Most Private Space, Matching Diverse Moods
As the most personal space, bedroom lighting prioritizes emotional value:
◇Reading Scene: Uniform three-dimensional light with no shadows, preventing eye strain during extended reading sessions;
◇Sleep Aid Scene: Gradual dimming of warm-toned light combined with dynamic light factor adjustments to soothe emotions and improve sleep quality;
◇Wake-Up Mode: Gradual increase from low brightness to 6500K cool white light, simulating sunrise for a gentle awakening.

4. Living Room: Transforming from “Pleasing Others” to “Pleasing Oneself”
With the rise of open-plan layouts and the decline of traditional living rooms, living room lighting now emphasizes full-scene coverage:
◇The Firefly large pendant light covers a 2.4-meter diameter area, meeting the expansive lighting needs for family reading or parent-child games;
◇Dynamic light factors can be activated with one touch, automatically adjusting light based on time and scene without manual intervention, making it easy for seniors and children to use.

Interactive Q&A
During the salon’s interactive session, Ms. Hong answered typical questions raised by the audience:
Q1: Does all-day smart dimming rely on highly sensitive sensors?
A: Yes. In addition to the spatial light sensors built into the lamp body, our products can also be paired with standalone desktop sensors to precisely detect illuminance on the work surface. This actually stems from user feedback: for example, some families face conflicts where mothers think the play area isn’t bright enough and turn on the lights, while grandmothers worry about wasting electricity and want them turned off—essentially due to differing perceptions of illuminance at various heights. With sensors, the system automatically adjusts lighting according to actual usage scenarios, resolving this issue.
Q2: What trends have emerged in home lighting design over the past two years?
A: The most noticeable trend is consumers’ increasing willingness to pay for tangible experiences. I can personally attest to this: previously, I thought as long as a lamp lit up, that was enough. But after discovering my child’s insufficient hyperopic reserve, I realized lighting is the easiest and most cost-effective measure among the four pillars of myopia prevention. Many users who try a high-quality large pendant light end up replacing all the lights in their home because the comfort provided by good lighting is very direct. People aren’t afraid of spending money; they’re afraid of spending money without receiving commensurate value.
Q3: How do we balance health, intelligence, and aesthetics?
Health is the baseline requirement—all our products must first meet eye-care and health standards. Intelligence represents an upgrade in user experience—for example, our sleep aid and wake-up modes genuinely address real user pain points, rather than pursuing smart features for their own sake. Aesthetics extends value—the lamp is part of the home space and should integrate seamlessly with different interior styles. These three elements are not mutually exclusive; rather, they form a progression from fundamentals to enhanced experience.
Q4: What are the key considerations for designing lighting in a children’s room?
A: First, achieve a combination of “ambient light + accent lighting”—ensure sufficient diffuse reflection throughout the space with good uniformity. Avoid having only the desk brightly lit while other areas remain dark, as frequent transitions between bright and dim environments can easily cause visual fatigue. Second, consider evolving needs: avoid direct light for infants, ensure adequate brightness in activity zones during toddlerhood, and meet reading and writing requirements once school starts. Ideally, a single solution should cover the needs of children from age 0 to 18.
Q5: What is the future direction of home lighting development?
A: Regardless of technological advances, the core principle of meeting genuine user needs remains unchanged. In the future, AI and IoT technologies will become even more deeply integrated into lighting products, but fundamentally, they must still solve real user pain points and deliver tangible value. We firmly believe that as long as we persist in developing products based on user needs, we will surely earn market recognition.
