Guangdong Adds 2 Billion Yuan Annually to Support LED Industry Development

The LED industry is one of the three major breakthroughs in Guangdong Province's current development of strategic emerging industries. It is also the main direction for science and technology departments to face the main battlefield of economic construction, promote the close integration of science and technology with industry, and enhance independent innovation capabilities and industrial competitiveness.

Guangdong treats high-quality major projects as the "driving engine" for building a modern industrial system. In the new round of industrial layout, it targets advanced manufacturing, strategic emerging industries, and modern service industries, guides capital toward key areas of industrial upgrading, and accelerates regional economic transformation.

During the "12th Five-Year Plan" period, Guangdong will allocate an additional 2 billion yuan annually, totaling 10 billion yuan over five years, to support 11 strategic emerging industries: high-end new electronic information, LED, new energy vehicles, solar photovoltaic, nuclear power equipment, wind power, biopharmaceuticals, new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection, aerospace, and marine industries. Key projects will play a leading role in promoting industrial transformation and upgrading as well as coordinated regional development, keeping pace with new trends in industrial and technological development at home and abroad, and accelerating the development of strategic emerging industries.

　　In 2011, Guangdong arranged 280 key projects with a total investment of 3,150.8 billion yuan and an annual planned investment of 430 billion yuan. Both the total project investment and the annual investment scale reached record highs. Among the 280 key projects in 2011, 95 were modern industrial projects with a total investment of 1,353.6 billion yuan, reflecting the strategy of driving industrial upgrading through incremental investment and gradually fostering a rational spatial layout and a complete industrial chain through project construction.
