Cree Further Improves High-Voltage LED Performance

  Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE), the market leader in LED lighting, recently announced the launch of high-voltage XLamp® XT-E HVW and XM-L HVW LEDs. These two new LEDs enable the use of more efficient and smaller drivers, thereby reducing costs for compact lighting applications such as candle bulbs and replacement light source fixtures.


  Ken Chakravarti, CTO of Ledzworld, stated: "The XLamp® XM-L HVW high-voltage LED enables us to fully leverage the efficiency advantages of high-voltage drivers without having to compromise between size and efficiency, thereby allowing us to provide customers with more efficient, better, and lower-cost small LED fixtures, such as B10-type replacement light sources."


  Compact packaging lighting applications, such as candle bulbs, have always been a challenge for LED technology. In the past, LEDs have been unable to deliver the required system-level performance within the package sizes demanded by customers.


  Peter Vaughan, Director of Applications Engineering at Power Integrations, pointed out: "Cree's new high-voltage XM-L HVW and XT-E HVW LEDs can maximize the LED voltage and minimize the current through the LED driver output rectifier. As a result, driver losses and thermal dissipation can be effectively reduced, and overall system luminous efficacy can be improved by several percentage points."


  Paul Thieken, Marketing Director of Cree LED Components, said: "Lighting OEM manufacturers can now take advantage of high-voltage LEDs with such high performance, which was not possible before. We will continue to develop corresponding LED products for different applications, thereby accelerating the adoption of energy-saving LED lighting products."


  Under conditions of 6W and 85°C, the cool white (6000K) and warm white (3000K) XLamp® XM-L HVW LEDs deliver luminous flux of up to 600 lm and 462 lm respectively; the cool white (6000K) and warm white (3000K) XLamp® XT-E HVW LEDs deliver luminous flux of up to 300 lm and 228 lm respectively. Under binning conditions, the typical forward voltage of both LEDs is 46V.


  XLamp® XT-E HVW and XM-L HVW LEDs are now available for mass production with standard lead times.
