US Rubicon Technology Ships 200,000 6-Inch Sapphire Wafers

Rubicon Technology, Inc of the US recently stated that it has sold more than 200,000 inch sapphire wafers worldwide.

　　Rubicon Technology (NASDAQ: RBCN) pointed out in August this year that the company has upgraded its crystal growth furnace production facilities at its three production sites, which can produce inch sapphire wafers. Two weeks ago, the company also announced that it has begun to produce aluminum oxide (alumina), the starting material for manufacturing sapphire, on its own, which will allow better process control and the growth of larger crystals.

　　The President and CEO of Rubicon Technology said: "Manufacturers all understand that large-diameter sapphire wafers can facilitate production and cost efficiency, effectively save costs throughout the entire production process, and also help the lighting industry promote LED lighting globally at lower prices."

　　Cost-effective large-diameter sapphire epitaxial wafer products are highly practical, and the production and manufacturing equipment can also produce large-diameter sapphire epitaxial wafer products, enabling manufacturers to increase their product output and chip yield, thereby reducing the total chip cost.

　　The transition in production to diameter-inch wafers has begun, and several major chip manufacturers have already announced or are about to announce the shift to larger-diameter wafers. A senior project manager at a US market research firm said: "Our research results show that by year-inch and larger-diameter wafers will account for more than 50% of the entire market."
