Japanese lighting giant Panasonic Electric Works has decided to dissolve on January 1, 2012, and be incorporated under Japanese electronics giant Panasonic. Including Japanese home appliance giant Sanyo Electric, three companies will reorganize nine business divisions. Panasonic Electric Works President and Panasonic Senior Managing Director Shūsaku Nagasako stated that the LED lighting business will continue to be produced domestically in Japan in the future to ensure product quality.

After the merger of Panasonic Electric Works and Panasonic, the business divisions will be divided into 5 groups for integration. First, the electrical appliance business will be combined with Panasonic's white goods division, while the electronic materials and control device business will be integrated with Panasonic Electronic Devices. The lighting, information equipment business and building materials business will be consolidated under Panasonic Lighting to establish an Environmental Energy Solutions Company, totaling 3 major divisions.

Nagasako stated that Panasonic has its unique strengths in energy-efficient home appliances, while Sanyo has achievements in the battery and solar power generation business, and Electric Works excels in managing lighting equipment and construction-related business. Panasonic plans to combine the strengths of each company to launch integrated service solutions including after-sales service, with the environmental energy business being one of its main targets.
