LED Engin Develops New Combined Technology to Reduce Light Source System Size by 50%
Recently, LED Engin announced a new technology, introducing two types of small-angle total internal reflection (TIR) high-efficiency lenses on its high-lumen products LuxiGen LZC and LZP emitters, and specially designed 8-degree and 15-degree lenses, specifically for use on LED Engin's high-lumen products. This invention replaces high-brightness LED arrays with a single LED emitter and lens, thereby reducing the size of the light source system by at least 50%, while providing excellent beam shape controllability.
LED Engin stated that this total internal reflection lens optimizes LED light emission, making the light more efficient and beam shape controllable, maximizing the usable lumen output in the target area. At the same time, it provides the throw distance required for many new lighting applications, allowing the light to spread evenly and avoiding drawbacks such as light flickering.
The 8-degree wide-to-narrow lens, paired with multi-color RGB, RGBA, and RGBW LZC emitters, can produce highly efficient dynamic color mixing, with wide applications in entertainment venues and architectural lighting. When paired with white-light LZC or LZP series emitters, it can replace 35-watt metal halide lamps, with a service life exceeding 50,000 hours and an efficiency of up to 12 cd/lm; the 15-degree lens with LZP emitter achieves an efficiency of 8 cd/lm.
Currently, a lens and emitter combination can achieve a maximum central beam candlepower of up to 36800cd. These lenses are made from optical-grade acrylic, which makes them easy to manufacture and mount onto LED Engin's LuxiGen circuit boards, offering significant industrial prospects.
