Semiconductor lighting (LED), as a revolutionary change in the new generation of light source and display technology, is one of the leading industries that enhances the structure of traditional industries and drives the development of related industries, with broad market prospects and enormous room for innovation.

The semiconductor lighting industry, as an environmentally friendly, energy-saving low-carbon industry, has attracted the attention of developed countries around the world. Its characteristics of being both knowledge- and labor-intensive are particularly suited to China's national conditions. Since the Ministry of Science and Technology launched the Semiconductor Lighting Project in 2003, with the support of the "10th Five-Year Plan" key technology program and the "11th Five-Year Plan" 863 Major Special Project for Semiconductor Lighting, and through effective organization and implementation, a relatively complete R&D system and industrial chain have been formed, covering epitaxial wafer production, chip fabrication, device packaging, and integrated applications. It has become the fastest-growing region in the global semiconductor lighting industry, an internationally important LED device packaging base, and the world's largest producer and exporter of LED full-color displays, solar LEDs, landscape lighting, and other application products. An emerging semiconductor lighting industry is taking shape.

Overall, China's semiconductor lighting industry has entered a major historical period of opportunity for independent innovation and leapfrog development, forming a model of industry-university-research cooperation with cross-industry integration and mutually advancing technologies. How to make up for industrial shortcomings, leverage unique advantages, and grow stronger in globalized industrial competition is the key to the future takeoff of China's semiconductor lighting industry. We still need to increase R&D investment in emerging technologies, break through certain key technologies and equipment, improve our patent layout, and enhance industrial competitiveness. At the high tide of the globalized development of the semiconductor lighting industry and technology, and at this critical moment of China's industrial development, we will welcome the 7th China International Semiconductor Lighting Exhibition and Forum (CHINASSL2010) to be held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from October 14-16, 2010.

As an annual grand event of the international semiconductor lighting industry, the 7th China International Semiconductor Lighting Exhibition and Forum is organized by relevant units including the Office of the National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Coordination Leading Group, the People's Government of Shenzhen Municipality, the China Illuminating Engineering Society, the China Association of Lighting Industry, and the National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering R&D and Industry Alliance, and hosted by the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center Management Co., Ltd. The previous six editions have received wide acclaim and attention in the industry. The China International Semiconductor Lighting Exhibition and Forum has become an important exchange and trading platform within the global industry chain, and is also one of the large-scale, high-level, and effective international exhibitions and forums in China.

The 7th China International Semiconductor Lighting Exhibition and Forum will scale up to a new level based on the successful experience of previous editions, with an expected exhibition area of 15,000 square meters. The forum is expected to attract 1,000 well-known experts, government officials, and business elites from home and abroad, with over 120 exciting presentations showcasing the latest R&D achievements and related applications, sharing their forward-looking technological ideas and rich R&D experiences with attendees. This edition of the forum will also organize relevant exhibitions and information release activities targeting the favorable business opportunities arising from various application demonstration projects. The exhibition has now fully launched its external booth recruitment work, with many well-known enterprises including SONY, Hangzhou Yuanfang, Hangzhou Zhongwei, Leman Optoelectronics, Han's Optoelectronics, Bangbeier, and Jiangsu Nanda having already booked exhibition booths.

While the conference is being prepared, the 3rd National Semiconductor Lighting Innovation Competition will also kick off, aiming to further raise public awareness of semiconductor lighting while advocating energy-saving and environmental protection consciousness, encouraging independent innovation in the LED industry to better promote the healthy and rapid development of China's semiconductor lighting industry. While upholding the tradition of previous competitions in promoting innovation and achieving leapfrog development of China's emerging semiconductor lighting industry, this competition has added some new highlights in terms of awards and rules. For example, this competition will for the first time establish a Student Creativity Award to encourage active participation of college students and provide them with a platform to showcase themselves.

CHINASSL2010 continues to vigorously build a high-level, results-oriented international exchange and trading platform. It will centrally showcase the implementation of major national semiconductor lighting application projects, represented by the Olympic and World Expo demonstration projects and the "Ten Cities, Ten Thousand Lights" pilot cities, to domestic and international audiences, demonstrating to the world the Chinese government's confidence and attitude in promoting energy conservation and emission reduction and advocating green lighting.

In the early stage of the conference preparation, the organizing committee specially held the "Press Conference for the 7th China International Semiconductor Lighting Exhibition and Forum and the 2010 National Semiconductor Lighting Innovation Competition" on the afternoon of June 10, 2010, at the Dinghu Hall of the Shangri-La Hotel in Guangzhou. Wu Ling, Secretary-General of the National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering R&D and Industry Alliance, Chen Xin, Deputy Director-General of Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Qiu Xuan, Deputy Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology, Industry, Trade and Information Technology Committee, and Su Yanwei, General Manager of Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center Management Co., Ltd., attended the meeting. This press conference focused on introducing the preparation status of the 7th China International Semiconductor Lighting Exhibition and Forum and the 2010 National Semiconductor Lighting Innovation Competition, with representatives from more than 30 media outlets and more than 50 semiconductor lighting enterprises, totaling more than 100 people, attending the event.

CHINASSL, which has been successfully held for six editions, has brought one surprise after another to the world. As CHINASSL 2010 is about to be convened, we also look forward to the continuous and unique impact this new edition of the industry event will bring to the industry, hoping it will promote the rapid development of China's semiconductor lighting industry and make it a leader in international competition.
