2010 Guangzhou Asian Games Lighting Results Presentation Successfully Concluded

The much-anticipated 16th Asian Games has come to a successful conclusion, and can be regarded as the largest and most successful edition in the history of the Asian Games. As the host city, Guangzhou has fully demonstrated the strength and charm of a national central city and an international metropolis. In preparation for the Asian Games, Guangzhou made tremendous investments and careful planning in all aspects of municipal construction, which not only enhanced Guangzhou's international and domestic image, but also provided an excellent example for municipal construction in cities across the country. Among these efforts, Guangzhou's urban lighting projects played a prominent role, with various lighting facilities making important contributions to beautifying the City of Rams and hosting a successful Asian Games.

In order to summarize Guangzhou's successful experience in preparing for the Asian Games and implementing lighting projects, and to promote Guangzhou's specific practices to cities across the country, providing useful reference for urban lighting projects and large-scale event lighting projects in various cities, on December 30, the Organizing Committee of the 16th Asian Games, relevant departments of Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City, together with industry organizations such as the China Illuminating Engineering Society, Guangdong Provincial Association of Lighting Electrical Appliances, Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, and Aladdin Lighting Network, held the "Lighting Makes Cities Better — Urban Nightscape Lighting Management and Guangzhou Asian Games Lighting Results Presentation" at the New Guangdong Provincial Museum located in Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou. Approximately 400 relevant personnel were invited to attend, including heads of construction departments and urban lighting administrative departments from provinces and cities across the country, representatives of design institutes and lighting enterprises that participated in the Asian Games lighting project construction, representatives of lighting engineering companies and architectural decoration engineering companies from provinces and cities across the country, representatives of lighting products and equipment manufacturing enterprises and distribution (agency) companies, as well as experts and scholars in the lighting field from scientific research institutes and institutions of higher learning.

The themes of this presentation included the design and implementation of lighting projects for major streets and scenic spots in Guangzhou (with a focus on the new central axis and the Pearl River banks); the design and implementation of lighting for the Asian Games opening and closing ceremonies and other performances, as well as surrounding lighting; the relationship between nightscape lighting construction and urban economic development, such as the tourism industry; the design and implementation of lighting for important buildings related to the Asian Games; and the management and maintenance of urban nightscape lighting. At the presentation, the heads of Guangzhou's urban construction departments, engineering planning and design experts in the lighting industry, and representatives of some enterprises that won bids for the Guangzhou Asian Games lighting projects elaborated on their specific work and views on the above topics, which aroused strong interest among the audience. Products from some enterprises were also displayed at the venue, receiving widespread attention from the participants. Many participants said that through this conference, they gained in-depth and extensive understanding of product technology, planning design, and maintenance management of urban lighting and Asian Games lighting projects in many aspects, which would be beneficial to improving their future work, and that this conference was indeed of great significance.

It is understood that the organizers of this report meeting will also use various means to promote and recommend relevant units such as government management departments, product manufacturing enterprises, and engineering design institutions that participated in the Guangzhou Asian Games lighting project. The organizers plan to collect texts and photos nationwide, and based on this, publish the "Urban Nightscape Lighting Management and Guangzhou Asian Games Lighting Achievement Report Conference Journal" and the large-scale album "Lighting Makes the City Better – 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games Light Show", which will be distributed globally during the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition in June 2011.

The person in charge of the organizer said that this report meeting is not only beneficial for all parts of the country to understand Guangzhou's outstanding achievements in the field of urban lighting and to enhance the city's influence, but also beneficial for providing good reference for the lighting projects of other cities and future large-scale event lighting projects, improving China's lighting application level while promoting the lighting industry to a new level.
