As early as June 19, 2013, the first China International Automotive Lighting Forum (IFAL) made its dazzling debut, with Teacher Lin Yandan as the founding chairman. Held annually, this year marks the 14th edition.
"Iron camp, flowing soldiers," the Chairman is still Teacher Lin. Because she does everything herself, she foresaw that new energy vehicles represent China's best opportunity to overtake on a bend. This may be related to her experience. She is a true academic star: bachelor's degree from Fudan University, followed by a direct PhD program, and then studied at Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany, receiving the DAAD scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service. Her Chinese mentors were outstanding: Professors Chen Dahua and Zhou Taiming are both titans in China's lighting industry. Her German mentor was even more impressive: Professor Hans-Joachim Schmidt-Krause, one of the pioneers in the field of automotive lighting. No wonder Teacher Lin dedicated herself immediately upon returning to China to promote the development of new energy vehicles!
Have you ever ridden on the C919 large aircraft? Its stability and comfort can be compared with Boeing 737, Airbus A320. I have the right to speak on this, after all, I am also an air traveler (having flown on various types of aircraft 1101 times), and the lighting environment among them has some credit to Teacher Lin.
Teacher Lin led the team for years facing complex operational scenarios such as national defense and major transportation, researching the relationship between lighting environments and human cognition, emotion, and sleep, applied to the design of domestic large aircraft. She presided over lighting research projects in multiple important models of high-speed rail and ships in our country. Through extensive collection and modeling of human research data, she quantified the effects of spectral components, illuminance, color temperature, and exposure timing on cognition, emotion, sleep structure, and circadian phase, forming a light intervention circadian phase quantification model, negative emotion effective light stimulation threshold, and display parameter-cognitive level model. Revealed the association between sleep quality and circadian rhythm under shift conditions and the mediating mechanism of fatigue on cognition under light intervention; developed pupil + eye movement physiological fatigue prediction and EEG alertness prediction, achieving cross-modal key biomarker extraction and precise state recognition, providing usable models and threshold libraries for environmental perception and state recognition in multiple scenarios. In the field of artificial intelligence, she bravely faces new challenges in interdisciplinary fields, always innovating or on the way to innovation.
It is rare and precious that she began focusing on the field of Healthy lighting as early as 2006, making significant contributions especially in the specialized area of eye-protection classroom lighting. As the primary drafter, she authored the "Shanghai Local Standard for Classroom Lighting in Primary and Secondary Schools" and led a large-scale A project on light environments in classrooms across all primary and secondary schools in Shanghai, benefiting hundreds of thousands of students; her achievements are truly immeasurable.
October 21, 2023, was the most glorious moment for Teacher Lin and also a source of pride for the lighting industry. She was awarded the "Outstanding Women in Engineering Award" by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO). This is extremely precious, with only one winner selected globally each year.
