Mr. Shuji Nakamura, for the first time in China, arrived on March 23, 2004, to attend the inaugural "China International Lighting Forum". Today, I can share the origins of this forum and why Mr. Shuji Nakamura chose to participate?

Back then, I served as the legal representative and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Optoelectronics Industry Association (SOTA), while simultaneously working at CREE's Shanghai office. At that time, I wanted to do two things: one was an LED Forum, and the other was an LED Exhibition. The idea for the Forum came from me; it was organized and led by CSA, with SOTA co-organizing.

The first Forum was held in Zhangjiang, Shanghai. Was there a keynote report at the Forum? Mr. Deng, CREE's Hong Kong agent, proactively offered to help with the invitation. At that time, Professor Shuji Nakamura was already teaching at the University of California, Santa Barbara in the US. Since CREE had a cooperation agreement with this university, the invitation came naturally.

At that time, Mr. Shuji Nakamura was already very famous as the inventor of blue LEDs and was speculated by the industry to receive the Nobel Prize. His presentation was very popular; the theme was that LED blue light exciting phosphor could become the next generation of lighting (applause should be heard here). The Chinese LED lighting industry has achieved today's brilliant success, and Mr. Nakamura is a leading figure who made great contributions. This Forum has now reached its 22nd edition; Mr. Nakamura attended in person 7 times and delivered video reports 4 times.

中村修二先生2014年获得诺贝尔物理学奖，2019年，由深圳市照明与显示工程行业协会（SLDA）承办在南昌举办的“首届世界半导体照明产业发展论坛”，邀请这样的大科学家难度可想而知，这次是通过我日本好朋友高田先生出面的，高田说：中村修二是美食家，就说江西小炒出名。果然中村修二先生又亲临大会，作了《蓝光LED的发明和固态照明的未来》报告。

值得一提的中村修二与江风益老师，在此次见面中，结下了不解之缘。之前他听说江老师团队在国际顶尖期刊上发表的硅基黄光已取得突破，专门要了样品在美国测试。正巧大会开幕前一天，测试报告出来了，数据与发表的完全一致。中村修二先生高兴呀！一连三次啧啧称赞，第一次是与南昌市委书记座谈时讲，是科技突破，国际领先。第二次在江西省副省长接见时，他又重复了一遍。第三次在大会作报告时再次强调，是了不起科技突破。可见中村修二先生的胸怀是多么宽广，对同行的科技成果，他视同己出，一样地高兴万分，并主动推荐江风益老师为全球半导体照明产业发展杰出贡献奖。

说来也是缘分，同年11月22日江风益老师当选了中国科学院院士。
