As a rare "cross-industry" figure in the lighting industry, Yin Kang's career trajectory spans academia, foreign enterprises, private enterprises, and diversified enterprises , his career path was once called "legendary" by the industry, his experience is known as a "microcosm of China's lighting industry upgrade".

Academic starting point: From Fudan podium to Philips pioneer

Yin Kang, born in 1968, graduated from Fudan University's Department of Light Source and Lighting Engineering, known as the "West Point of the Lighting World". Before 1995, his identity was that of a Fudan University teacher; he could have continued a "lecturer-associate professor-professor" " stable life script ", but ultimately chose to step out of his comfort zone—Yin Kang believes such a life is predictable and lacks novelty.

He once said, " I like to constantly try new things; this methodical life is not what I want. "

In 1995, a "coincidence" opened up his career turning point: At that time, Philips had just entered the Chinese market and urgently needed professional talent amidst rapid expansion. With a solid and relevant academic background, Yin Kang chose to "lead the charge" and join Philips, serving as Philips Lighting Engineering Director and Luminaire Product Manager.

Foreign enterprise experience: 12 years witnessing the reshaping of the industry landscape

During his 12 years at Philips, Yin Kang witnessed firsthand the entire journey of the Philips Lighting brand from an "imported product" to an industry leader — participating in channel setup, brand localization, market refinement, and deeply driving the large-scale expansion of Philips Lighting in the Chinese market .

These 12 years were also the most critical transformation period for China's lighting industry: In the 1990s, foreign brands grew rapidly and dominated the market; after 2000, as foreign brands matured their expansion in the Chinese market, growth slowed down, leading to a "growth bottleneck." Conversely, domestic private lighting enterprises rose rapidly, full of vitality.

Private enterprise breakthrough: 5 years of NVC's "technical gap-filling"

In 2007, Yin Kang left the international giant Philips and unexpectedly chose to join NVC Lighting, taking on the role of Executive Vice President — moving from a foreign enterprise to a private one was rare at that time. At that time, Yin Kang said: " The growth potential of NVC made me see the vitality of private enterprises ", this decision became the "most challenging" step in his career resume.

At that time, although NVC was the leading domestic lighting enterprise, it had obvious shortcomings in product technology and R&D systems. To address this, under Yin Kang's leadership and promotion, NVC established a Shanghai R&D center, acquired energy-saving lamp and electrical appliance enterprises to quickly fill technical gaps; meanwhile, he was responsible for operations, sales, strategic investment and other departments, deeply participating in NVC's transformation from " extensive expansion " to " standardized management + brand and technology dual drive ".

Diverse exploration: From entrepreneur to marketing innovator

In 2012, affected by the then NVC venture capital controversy, relevant international strategic investments were shelved, and Yin Kang chose to turn again — he frankly stated: "As a professional manager, waiting is not my style"

In 2012, Yin Kang joined Topshine Optoelectronics Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. as General Manager, together with Gu Xiaoyi and He Wei, known as the "Three Swordsmen" of Topshine — transitioning from professional managers to entrepreneurs, exploring differentiated competition, fully building Topshine's brand identity as "Supermarket Lighting Expert", rapidly capturing the domestic supermarket lighting market with the strategy of "high cost-performance + customized service", becoming a leading enterprise in the niche field.

In 2016, after Yin Kang stepped back to serve as Senior Advisor at Topshine, he joined Huida Sanitary Ware in 2017 as Deputy General Manager, mainly responsible for marketing work, leading the digital transformation of Huida Sanitary Ware's marketing model, accelerating the reform and innovation of this traditional sanitary ware enterprise.

In November 2022, Yin Kang resigned from his positions as Director and Deputy General Manager of the company, embarking on a new professional chapter.

A critical period for China's market recovery, Yin Kang's "breakthrough value"

In recent years, Signify has faced multiple challenges in the Chinese market: In 2024, sales came under pressure due to factors such as economic downturn and weakness in the construction industry; however, the performance report for the first half of 2025 shows that with consumption recovery and the accelerated implementation of green lighting and national subsidy policies, the Chinese market is showing signs of recovery.

Yin Kang's "cross-industry experience"may be viewed as a "key variable"for Signify:

Foreign enterprise DNA + deep local integration: His 12 years of experience at Philips gave him a global vision and systematic management capabilities, while his 5-year tenure at NVC, Teoushi and other local enterprises made him deeply familiar with the pain points of the Chinese market such as "fragmented channels and diversified demand";

The Balancer of Technology and Business: From Philips' technology commercialization to NVC's R&D gap-filling, and then to TEO's customized services, he has always been a practitioner of 'technology landing in business', which highly aligns with Signify's core strategy of 'Innovation Leading Lighting';

Crisis Response and Transformation Experience: Whether it was breaking through at NVC,突围 in niche markets by TEO, or the digital transformation of Huida Sanitary Ware, he has led change multiple times during critical periods of enterprise development, possessing strong strategic execution and risk resistance capabilities.

“中国照明市场的复杂性,在于需求的分层与技术的快速迭代。行业观察人士评价,“殷慷的履历中既有体系化管理的严谨,又有本土实战的灵活,这或许正是昕诺飞需要的'破局者'。

Editor's Note

With Yin Kang's official appointment, the management structure of Signify China is complete with this key piece. For Yin Kang, the current core task is to drive the continuous recovery of performance in Signify China.

Industry analysis indicates that the Chinese lighting market is shifting from 'incremental expansion' to 'stock upgrade', with smart lighting, healthy lighting, energy-saving commercial lighting, and professional special lighting becoming growth engines. Whether Yin Kang can leverage his deep understanding of local needs combined with Signify's global technology and product advantages to seize the initiative, and whether he can lead Signify to extract incremental growth from the stock market, will be key highlights during his tenure.

The new story of Signify China has quietly begun. Whether this "lighting veteran", who combines technical depth, channel insight, and cross-cultural leadership, can continue the legend remains to be seen.
