About LED Smart Plant Factories! Unveiling of the China-Romania Joint Laboratory for Agricultural Cooperation

In his speech, Wu Kongming reviewed the long history of agricultural cooperation between China and Romania, stating that the establishment of the joint laboratory is an important milestone in scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides. He said that the laboratory will become a center for agricultural research, talent cultivation, and achievement display for both China and Romania, contributing to the development of green agriculture in the two countries.

Tatomir stated that education and research are key areas for the future development of Romanian agriculture. Through the joint laboratory, the Chinese side will share expertise and technology in greenhouse vegetable cultivation, providing Romanian students with opportunities to learn about the latest breakthroughs in agricultural and horticultural technologies.

Han Chunlin stated in his address that the construction of the joint laboratory is an important achievement of the "Belt and Road" Science and Technology Innovation Action Plan, aiming to promote agricultural scientific and technological innovation on both sides, deepen scientific, technological and people-to-people exchanges, and jointly improve people's livelihoods. The demonstration and leading role of the joint laboratory is significant, having generated positive impacts in Central and Eastern Europe, and providing strong support for people-to-people exchanges, technology promotion and production capacity cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries.

Kempeanu expressed gratitude to the Chinese partners and looked forward to further deepening cooperation. He stated that in the future, both sides will strengthen cooperation in digitalization, intelligence, and green sustainable development technologies, laying a solid foundation for agricultural scientific and technological innovation in both countries.

After the ceremony, representatives from both sides visited the joint laboratory, where facilities such as energy-saving solar greenhouses, LED intelligent plant factories, and edible mushroom factories fully demonstrated the latest applications of Chinese technology in the agricultural sector.

Since 2019, with the support of the governments of China and Romania, the Institute of Agricultural Environment and Sustainable Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest have cooperated on the construction of the joint laboratory. After five years of close collaboration, the platform construction for Phase I and Phase II of the joint laboratory in Romania has been successfully completed and put into operation, including a 500-square-meter solar greenhouse, a 50-square-meter artificial light plant factory, a 1,000-square-meter double-frame energy-saving greenhouse, and a 75-square-meter edible mushroom factory.
