The Municipal Administration of Greening and Public Sanitation announced that, to advance the "One River, One Creek" public welfare project and further enhance the landscape quality along both banks of the Suzhou Creek, providing citizens and tourists with a better leisure and recreation experience, it has jointly formulated the "Suzhou Creek Bridge Landscape Enhancement Plan" with the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission and the Municipal Transportation Commission. This year, landscape enhancements for 15 bridges are to be completed. Currently, the design proposals for the bridge landscape enhancements have passed approval. Key features of the design proposal:
● Aiming at the goal of positioning Suzhou Creek landscape lighting as a "city card", closely following the "Suzhou Creek Night Scenery, Charming Shanghai" theme, and continuing the "warm and elegant" tone of Suzhou Creek nightscape;
● In accordance with the design requirements of "One Bridge, One Theme; One Bridge, One Scenery", factors such as bridge structure, historical culture, and surrounding environment are considered to determine the key focuses and highlights of landscape enhancement, balancing overall integrity and individuality;
● Implement the development concept of "green, low-carbon, energy saving and environmental protection", fully use energy-saving luminaires, control luminaire power and luminance, adopt on/off energy-saving control methods, and integrate into municipal and district-level centralized control systems.
Zhapu Road Bridge
The Zhapu Road Bridge, completed in 1927, stands across the river from the Little Lujiazui area and is one of the best photo spots along the Suzhou Creek. With "Ode to the Four Seasons" as its design theme, the bridge's underside is adorned with the colors of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The interplay of light and shadow allows visitors to experience the seasonal scenery of the Suzhou Creek, echoing the nightscape of Little Lujiazui in the distance to jointly present a dreamlike visual feast.

Zhejiang Luqiao
The Zhejiang Road Bridge, completed in 1908, is a fish-belly truss bridge. It is the sister bridge of the Waibaidu Bridge and is listed as a municipal cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai. With "Flowing Light Movement" as its design theme, lighting is concealed within the structural grilles beneath the beams, creating light "keys." The interplay of light and shadow changes like piano playing, transforming the space under the bridge into a stage of musical notes.

North-South Elevated Highway
The North-South Elevated Bridge, completed in 1995, is the widest bridge over the Suzhou Creek and allows the longest passage time for cruise ships underneath. With "Sky Realm" as its design theme, intelligent interactive projections are installed under the bridge, changing visuals as cruise ships pass by, enriching the experience for citizens and tourists.
In normal mode, the projected pattern is soothing, presenting a visual effect of rippling water; in holiday mode, the sensor control system activates the interactive projection mode when cruise ships pass by, allowing visitors to see schools of fish following them overhead, adding a fun element.

Changping Road Bridge
Changping Road Bridge was completed in 2020. The arch axis on the bridge, together with the large-span cantilever, forms a "Bright Eye" shape, reinforcing the design theme of the "Eye of Suzhou Creek." This upgrade enhances the interactive effect between the "Eye of Suzhou Creek" and cruise ships: when a ship approaches the bridge, a "blinking eye" effect is triggered. A "Dark Night Starry Sky" scene is installed under the bridge, using wireless control to interact with cruise ships—"flicker when ships arrive, dark night when ships depart"—enhancing the cruising experience. The combination of lighting on the bridge arches, under the bridge, and mist spraying on the sides further embodies the poetic beauty of the misty Jiangnan region. The bridge lighting is powered by solar photovoltaic generation, contributing to the green, low-carbon, and digital sustainable development of the city's nightscape / landscape lighting.

Anyuan Bridge Completed in 2022, the Anyuan Bridge spans the Suzhou Creek with a "U"-shaped design. It is the only cable-stayed bridge with twin towers on the Suzhou Creek, serving as both a pedestrian viewing bridge and a path for non-motorized vehicles. With "Chain of Suzhou Creek" as its design theme, it highlights the lighting of the railings and twin-tower cables, using integrated luminous panels for the railings. In normal mode, the railings emit monochromatic light; during holidays, the colorful interactive function is activated, creating color blending and changes through the luminous panels. Sensors on the bridge capture pedestrian movements and project them onto the railings in real time, creating an interactive effect. △Renderings provided by the Jing'an District Greening and Public Appearance Bureau△ Changhua Road Bridge Changhua Road Bridge was completed in 2001. It is bordered to the north by Zhongyuan Liangwan City and connects to the south with the popular landmark Tianan 1000 Trees, making it one of the best spots for viewing the night scenery along Suzhou Creek. With "Butterfly Love Resting on Waves" as its design theme, the lighting under the bridge has been significantly enhanced. In normal mode, the underside of the bridge displays a static single-color effect, while during holidays, the bridge body exhibits slow color-changing effects. △Renderings provided by the Municipal Road Transport Bureau△ Jiangning Road Bridge Jiangning Road Bridge was completed in 2012. It connects to the Shanghai Mint Museum in the west, borders Mengqing Garden in the east, and faces the Putuo District Fire Rescue Association across the river. With "Gilded Artistic Realm" as its design theme, interactive projection devices are used to enhance the under-bridge lighting. In normal mode, the underside of the bridge displays a static dreamy blue effect. During holidays, the interactive projection devices project patterns such as golden light particles when tour boats pass by, creating an immersive experience for people. △Renderings provided by the Municipal Road Transport Bureau△ Zhenping Road Bridge Zhenping Road Bridge, completed in 2009, adopts "Silhouette of the Era" as its design theme. Utilizing light and shadow technology, it uses the pipeline bridge as a projection screen to display classic scenes of changing times, becoming an open-air micro-cinema in the city. △Renderings provided by the Municipal Road Transport Bureau△ Wuning Road Bridge Wuning Road Bridge, completed in 1956, is Shanghai's first bridge decorated with thematic sculptures that blend Chinese and Western styles. With "Suzhou Creek Nocturne" as the design theme, the overall color temperature of the bridge pillars has been adjusted for more detailed light and shadow rendering; patterned translucent panels are installed under the bridge to project lighting effects that echo the bridgeheads; distinctive digital water curtain installations are set up on the sides of the bridge, allowing visitors on passing cruise ships to enjoy a water curtain light show. △Renderings provided by the Putuo District Construction Management Committee△ Huazheng Bridge Huazheng Bridge, completed in 2001 and originally named Xuetang Bridge, connects the campuses of East China University of Political Science and Law on both banks of the Suzhou Creek. With "Scholarly Elegance" as its design theme, floodlighting and wall-washing techniques are used to illuminate the bridge structure and underside. At night, warm yellow light gently highlights the sides of the bridge, while the low-saturation colors on the bridge's belly change gradually, complementing and blending seamlessly with the landscape lighting of the riverside buildings. △Renderings provided by the Putuo District Greening and Public Appearance Bureau△ Metro Line 3 Kaixuan Road Bridge The Kaixuan Road Bridge on Metro Line 3 was completed in 2000 and is the only metro bridge over the Suzhou Creek. With "Future Imagination" as its design theme, the bridge arches are illuminated by red static floodlighting, while dynamic color-changing lights along the sides enhance the ambiance. Additionally, an AR light show has been installed, allowing residents and tourists to watch a dreamlike world on their mobile phones that combines the bridge, the light rail, and virtual scenes. △Renderings provided by Shentong Metro Group△ Gubei Road Bridge The Gubei Road Bridge, completed in 2008, spans the Suzhou Creek and Changning Road. With "Resonance of Qin and Se" as its design theme, the stone railings are illuminated in full color. The railings resemble a row of bianzhong (chime bells) standing on the Suzhou Creek, gently rising and falling with the lighting, harmonizing with the Luding Road Bridge. △Renderings provided by the Municipal Road Transport Bureau△ Luding Road Bridge The Luding Road Bridge was completed in 2010. With "Jiangnan Rhyme" as its design theme, the railings resemble guzheng strings. By illuminating the horizontal railings, a symphony of light is played over the Suzhou Creek. △Renderings provided by the Municipal Road Transport Bureau△ North Heng Passage Bridge The Beiheng Corridor Bridge was completed in 2022, diagonally crossing the Suzhou Creek and connecting to the Middle Ring Road along its bank after crossing the river. With "Lighting up the Suzhou Creek" as the design theme, the lighting integrates with the Middle Ring interchange to form a unified landscape lighting scheme. Dot light source patterns are installed on the noise barriers; when cruise ships pass by, starlight gathers through sensors and moves with the boats, creating a scenic riverside illuminated like a galaxy of stars. △Renderings provided by the Municipal Road Transport Bureau△ Zhonghuan Interchange The Zhonghuan Interchange, completed in 2004 with five levels and 24 ramps, is a landmark structure spanning the Suzhou Creek. With "Blue Dream Symphony" as its design theme, the nightscape of the interchange was enhanced for the perspective of cruise ships on the Suzhou Creek. Floodlighting illuminates the three-tiered sections along the river, resembling rainbows arching over the creek.
