US Media: US Plans to Ban All Incandescent Light Bulbs

According to Fox News on April 1 local time, the Biden administration is preparing to implement a comprehensive ban on common incandescent light bulbs nationwide , as part of its agenda to improve energy efficiency and address climate change.

It is reported that the U.S. Department of Energy determined in April 2022 a regulation prohibiting retailers from selling incandescent light bulbs, with the ban set to take effect on August 1, 2023. Currently, the U.S. Department of Energy has urged retailers to begin selling transitional bulb types and has started issuing warning notices to companies over the past few months. According to the U.S. Department of Energy's announcement, this regulation will save consumers approximately $3 billion annually in electricity costs over the next 30 years and reduce carbon emissions by 222 million tons.

According to regulations, incandescent lamps and similar halogen light bulbs will be banned, replaced by light-emitting diodes (LED). According to survey data, 54% of US households with an annual income over $100,000 use LED, while only 39% of households with an annual income of $20,000 or less use LED. This means that the upcoming energy regulations will have a significant impact on low-income populations in the United States.
