As the boundary between architectural and entertainment lighting blurs, colored LEDs begin to dominate the stage
As LED technology brings new possibilities to lighting, the lighting industry continues to evolve. The demand for enhanced luminaire value and capabilities is accelerating, while considerations of circular economy and sustainability have become paramount. Currently, there are three obvious trends. First, the luminaires used can be white light or contain saturated colored light; second, RGBW cannot achieve flexible use of colored or white light in any ratio; third, there is a need to mix multiple light sources under a single optical configuration. Lumileds states that LUXEON Rubix was developed specifically to realize the design and functionality of these novel luminaires.
Because LUXEON Rubix is so compact (1.4mm x 1.4mm), it enables discrete component combinations to achieve the smallest emitting surface and smallest optical dimensions, allowing for tight beam angles down to 10 degrees. Multiple LUXEON Rubix units can be fitted under a single optical component, improving color mixing, resulting in smaller overall size and reduced space occupied by optical components. Lumileds states that with LUXEON Rubix, customers will have a flexible platform they can use across multiple products in different markets while maintaining a common pad size and optical height regardless of their target Light color.
To support the goals of luminaire manufacturers and end customers, Lumileds has released six new LUXEON Rubix white LEDs with color temperatures ranging from 2200K to 6500K, Color rendering indices (CRI) of 70, 80, and 90, and a minimum luminous flux ranging from 140 to 220 lumens.
