IEC and CIE publish international standards/technical reports

IEC publishes the international standard "Photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems Part 7: Light sources and luminaires primarily emitting visible radiation" (IEC 62471-7:2023)

CIE publishes the technical report "LED Reference Spectrum for Photometer Calibration" (CIE 251:2023)

This technical report was prepared by CIE Division 2. The CIE Standard Illuminant A was introduced in 1932 to represent typical tungsten illumination in chromaticity; for decades, it has been used as the reference spectrum in photometer calibration.

In 2018, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) published a new type of LED light source in the 4th edition of CIE 015:2018 Chromaticity. Based on one of these new LED light sources, this technical report proposes recommendations for an LED reference spectrum and names it "CIE Reference Spectrum L41" to supplement the photometric calibration of CIE Standard Illuminant A. This document includes list data for the "CIE Reference Spectrum L41" and quality metrics for white LEDs used as physical LED standard light sources.

This document provides information on the typical magnitude of spectral mismatch error V(λ) when calibrating photometers using 'CIE Reference Spectrum L41' instead of CIE Standard Illuminant A, in the context of measurements with filter photometers for LEDs and other light sources.
