Mexico issues new regulations for LED light bulbs

The Mexican Secretariat of Economy announced the publication of the new standard NMX-I-J-324-NYCE-ANCE-2022 for integrated light-emitting diode (LED) lamps for general lighting. This standard covers LED lamps with a rated power below 150 W, rated voltage greater than 50 V and less than 277 V, and lamp cap types listed in Table 1 of the standard. It establishes safety and interchangeability requirements for integrated (LED) lamps used in residential and similar general lighting applications, as well as the test methods and conditions required to demonstrate compliance. The standard officially entered into force on September 13, 2022.

The requirements and test methods of NMX-I-J-324-NYCE-ANCE-2022 are not fully equivalent to the international standard IEC 62560 (Ed 1.1, April 2015 version) for safety specifications of self-ballasted LED lamps for general lighting purposes, for the following reasons:

These are test methods essential for verifying whether LED light bulbs comply with Mexican standards, even though they are not considered in international standards.

Friendly reminder: LED bulbs sold in Mexico must also comply with the mandatory energy efficiency standard NOM-030-ENER-2016.
