CCTV13 "News Live": Intelligent Supplemental Lighting Application at the Passion Fruit Planting Demonstration Base in Pingtang, Guizhou
The fragrance of passion fruit fills the air as farmers busy themselves with harvesting.
On August 19, 2022, CCTV-13's "News Live" broadcast a report titled "Guizhou Pingtang: On the Fields of Hope, Passion Fruit Fragrance Fills the Air as Farmers Busy Themselves with Harvesting," covering passion fruit cultivation in Pingtang, Guizhou.
Pingtang boasts a unique mountainous climate and abundant natural resources, resulting in passion fruits that ripen early and possess excellent quality. To ensure high yields and enhance the taste quality of passion fruit, in May 2021, the Guizhou Provincial Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Research and Design (under the Guizhou Academy of Sciences system) carried out intelligent supplemental lighting applications for passion fruit at the "Shandinghong Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. Passion Fruit Planting Demonstration Base" in Kedu Town, Pingtang County, Guizhou .
The nutritional and growth patterns of agricultural organisms are diverse and complex. Their response mechanisms to the light environment vary, requiring systematic, case-by-case research to reveal their photobiological principles. The realization of high-efficiency RGB LED technology is the foundation and a key opportunity for applying LED agritech to agricultural lighting. It enables scientifically precise "light recipes" for various crops at different growth stages, thereby increasing crop yields.
The supplemental lighting at the Guizhou Provincial Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Research and Design adopts a specialized luminaire for passion fruit, jointly developed by Jiangxi Golden Light Smart Lighting Co., Ltd. and the National Silicon-based LED Engineering Technology Research Center, thereby promoting photosynthesis, improving the survival rate, appearance quality, and fruit set rate of fruit trees, and enhancing fruit color and quality.
The control system adopts the " modular intelligent control system" independently developed by the Electromechanical Design Institute. This system features intelligent detection and collection of crop ambient temperature, soil moisture, natural light intensity, supplemental lighting intensity, CO2 content, and water and fertilizer conditions, enabling efficient, stable, and intelligent plant supplemental lighting control.
In mid-August 2021, comparative testing of fruits in the supplemental lighting area and non-supplemental lighting area was conducted. A total of 29 indicators were tested. Indicators such as total sugar and soluble solids showed varying degrees of improvement, and yield increased by approximately 20%.
Passion fruit cultivation has become an industry that helps local farmers increase their income and supports rural revitalization.
