Shanghai suspends part of its landscape lighting!

According to the official WeChat account "Green Shanghai" of the Shanghai Landscaping and City Appearance Publicity and Education Center, on August 21, the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Greening and City Appearance issued the "Notice on Suspending Nightscape / Landscape lighting in Certain Areas": To implement the requirements of the "2022 Shanghai Peak Summer Season Orderly Electricity Consumption Plan", on August 22 (Monday) and August 23 (Tuesday), ShanghaiCitywill suspend Nightscape / Landscape lighting (including media facades) in the Bund, North Bund, and Xiaolujiazui areas along the Huangpu River, and all relevant units are requested to comply.

According to a CCTV News report on August 14, since the start of summer, Shanghai has experienced multiple days with temperatures exceeding 40°C. The sustained high temperatures have led to a continuous rise in electricity consumption for production and daily life, pushing Shanghai's power load to historic highs. Statistical data from State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company shows that in July, residential electricity consumption in Shanghai increased by 38.41% compared to the same period last year, and in the first week of August, residential electricity consumption in Shanghai rose by 40.24% compared to the same period last year.

In Shanghai's electricity supply, imported power accounts for approximately 45%, consisting of hydropower from the Three Gorges and southwestern regions, as well as thermal power from Anhui, transmitted to Shanghai—the load center—via ultra-high voltage (UHV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) transmission lines. The operational status of these critical inbound power channels directly affects electricity access for households and businesses.

Currently, State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Company is strengthening the inspection and maintenance of key power facilities such as transmission corridors and substations through scientific grid dispatching, ensuring stable grid operation.

Relevant departments in Shanghai are strengthening coordination and cooperation, working with power companies to overcome the dual pressures of sustained high temperatures and high electricity load, ensuring stable and orderly power supply across the city.
