Road lighting energy-saving and low-carbon technologies and cases: Zhejiang Province S222 solar street light project

The 2022 National Energy Saving Publicity Week runs from June 13 to 19, with the theme "Green low-carbon, energy saving first". The National Low-Carbon Day is on June 15, with the theme "Implementing 'Dual Carbon' actions, building a beautiful home together".


To widely promote education and awareness on energy saving and carbon reduction, and to vigorously advocate for green, low-carbon production and lifestyle patterns, China Lighting Network, Agricultural Lighting Network, and Ming Classroom have jointly solicited energy-saving and low-carbon technology and project cases from lighting enterprises and user units (details: 2022 National Energy Conservation Week - Solicitation of Lighting Energy Saving and Low-Carbon Cases ). This issue presents a submitted case: the Zhejiang Province S222 Solar Street Light Project.


As the world develops at a rapid pace, while we enjoy the convenience and comfort brought by modern technology, the Earth on which we depend for survival is gradually being damaged. Currently, the national government has elevated energy conservation and consumption reduction to an unprecedented level; among the eight tasks proposed at the National Economic Work Conference, energy conservation and consumption reduction were ranked fourth. The National Development and Reform Commission has repeatedly stated that the unit GDP energy consumption indicator is a legally binding constraint. In today's society of rapid economic development, energy conservation and consumption reduction have become a strong shared will across all sectors of society.


Jiangsu Kaiyuan Solar Lighting Co., Ltd. is an enterprise dedicated to the production and R&D of solar street lights, adhering to a product positioning centered on solar street lights. It has achieved full independent R&D and manufacturing for all products. Currently, nearly one million sets of solar street light products are available for domestic and international markets, having withstood tests in various usage environments.

In February 2022, Kaiyuan Solar participated in the new construction project of lighting facilities on the Liancheng to Bihu section of S222 Provincial Road, Lienshui City, Zhejiang Province . The company provided a total of 1,277 sets of 80-watt integrated solar street lights . This project delivered significant social benefits and received unanimous praise from the local government.

Project design scheme: Pole height 10 meters, light source power 80W, total luminous flux reaching 14400 lm, color temperature 5000K, color rendering index (CRI) ≥ Ra70, capable of time-segmented control and remote control.


We now adopt different solutions for this project to compare the different benefits brought by energy saving and environmental protection:

(Using coal-fired power generation as a reference, we calculate the emission reduction benefits of energy savings. According to expert statistics: for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity saved, corresponding emissions are reduced by 0.997 kg of "carbon dioxide", equivalent to reducing 0.272 kg of "carbon".)


The grid-powered solution may have a slightly lower initial investment, but considering later maintenance and environmental impact, solar power and solar+IoT solutions are more feasible. To facilitate later lighting debugging and maintenance, the project ultimately adopts the Solar+IoT solution. The IoT control module , can achieve the following functions :


1. View the real-time status and historical data (daily charging capacity, daily discharging capacity, device voltage, device current, device power, etc.) of solar street lights logged in the system;


2. Remotely adjust the street light's illumination time and luminance;


3. Fault reporting and rapid maintenance (if a solar street light fails, the system will report an error, displaying the specific location and ID of the faulty lamp, enabling customers to quickly locate and repair it);


4. The IoT control module also incorporates energy-saving commissioning functions, allowing manual adjustment of lighting modes based on the customer's actual usage and environmental conditions.


The project has been fully installed and is now in operation. As shown in the weekly data from the IoT backend (see figure below), it perfectly achieves the conversion and utilization of natural energy, realizing energy saving, environmental protection, and effective use of natural resources.

With the development of the world's industrial economy and a dramatic increase in population, human production and lifestyles have become increasingly intelligent and convenient. The world climate faces increasingly serious problems, and carbon dioxide emissions are growing larger and larger. Our enterprise will continue to develop the solar industry, actively promote the use of solar street lights, and carry out the production, R&D, and promotion of solar street lights to contribute our share to energy saving and environmental protection, implement the 'Dual Carbon' action, and build a beautiful home together!
