Smart streetlight robot arrives at South China University of Technology, Hankou Road!

In the first batch of urban renewal pilot projects in Nanjing, the Gulou Central District is included. Since 2019, Gulou District of Nanjing has implemented environmental improvement in the central district by creating distinctive cultural streets and alleys, building livable residential communities, introducing smart streetlights, and upgrading rain and sewage pipelines, breathing new life into the old city.

Nanjing Nanhan Kou Road is a famous academic road and part of the renovation of the Gulou central district in Nanjing. As one of the important transportation routes of Nanjing University, Hankou Road has a profound cultural heritage and a simple, authentic lifestyle. It is bordered by Tianjin Road to the east and Qingdao Road to the west, with a total length of approximately 0.38 km.

In the past, Hankou Road was cluttered with poles and cables, had poor road conditions, and narrow road space. Hankou Road introduced a future-city self-developed smart streetlight robot to improve the road quality in front of the academic gate and enhance the living environment around Nanjing University.

Before retrofit:

During this renovation, a total of 25 pedestrian walkway lights, 2 smart walkway light electronic signage poles, and 2 smart medium-height pole lights are planned to be installed along the entire line.

Among them, smart streetlight robots are installed at the intersection nodes on both sides of Hankou Road. By using electronic signage, old-style directional signs and street name signs are integrated. This reduces the number of poles and signs while providing intelligent wayfinding services for local residents, tourists, Nanjing University visitors, etc., via smart rotating electronic signage.

Smart pole-mounted lights at the main gate of Nanjing University have replaced the original outdated lighting sources. While providing ample illumination at night, they also offer functions such as information dissemination and epidemic prevention publicity , serving as an informational means for Nanjing University's 120th anniversary celebration.

Since the full road began renovation construction at the end of November 2021, after six months of refined management, the Hankou Road comprehensive improvement project has been officially completed, transforming its past chaotic and outdated appearance into a new vitality.

After retrofit:

In the Nanhan Hankou Road project, smart streetlights integrate 5G base stations, various monitoring systems, signage, and other applications into a single unit, effectively reducing the number of road poles and lowering one-time construction and O&M costs. The renovated Hankou Road has established a unified road system with 'three networks in one'—energy network, wired network, and wireless network , providing energy and network support for surrounding municipal and public facilities.

The smart streetlight robot features a modern and novel lamp design; its overall shape is elegant and refined. From a distance, it resembles young seedlings, harmoniously blending into the natural environment to enhance urban streetscapes, achieving 'pole upgrade where the light itself becomes scenery'.

Smart streetlight robots provide basic lighting while offering various public services to residents and students, including information dissemination, epidemic prevention and control publicity, security monitoring, network communication, charging, etc.
