Guanyin Dharma Realm Phase I Guanyin Holy Altar

Lighting Design Project Showcase for Indoor Spaces

Guanyin Dharma Realm is located at the foot of Baishan Mountain in Zhujiajian, Zhoushan Islands, Zhejiang Province, China. It comprises multiple functional complexes including the Guanyin Altar, Lay College, Zhengfa Temple, Buddhist University, and Guanyin Park. The total construction area is approximately 300,000 square meters. It is a comprehensive exhibition park dedicated to Guanyin culture, integrating cultural experiences, art exhibitions, cultural exchanges, and sightseeing services. The Guanyin Altar serves as the core landmark building of the Guanyin Dharma Realm.

The internal spatial structure of the Guanyin Altar building is derived from the Buddhist imagery of 'Mount Sumeru'. The Yuantong Hall, located at the center of the first floor, forms a dome-like space composed of 216 Guanyin Buddha statues and the 24 Vows gates. White LED lights hidden within the architectural structure create a sacred atmosphere for worship throughout the space, and can instantly switch to dynamic lighting modes that narrate the legend of Guanyin crossing the sea using sea-blue and golden lighting.

The upper part of the Grand Hall of Yuantong is a hollow tubular structure made of aluminum alloy and glass, . The light emitted by 4,872 RGBW bar LED luminaires hidden within the structure illuminates 816 diamond-shaped glass panels and aluminum alloy structures, as if heavenly light were channeled from the nine-story bright dome of the building into the hall, symbolizing that Guanyin's compassion shines upon all beings like heavenly light.

Inside the Guanyin Altar building, there are also Buddhist halls of various historical styles arranged around the Mount Sumeru structure, each highlighted with lighting that matches the corresponding atmosphere to emphasize the sanctity and solemnity of Buddhism.

The highest space of the Zhengfa Mingguang Pavilion within the altar enshrines a jade statue of the Tathagata Zhengfaming. It is presented using a combination of internal transmission and external projection lighting . During the worship process, the normal white light illumination gradually dims; as the UVA LED light source turns on, exquisite Buddhist paintings painted with fluorescent materials gradually emerge in the originally pure white four-walled space.

The entire project design adopts energy-saving and high-efficiency high-quality LED lighting equipment, along with an intelligent lighting control system, to achieve convenient and user-friendly management and control.

The judges considered it " soul-stirring, bringing a true religious experience !"
