In response to the sudden outbreak in Shanghai, the "Interstellar Light Shield," which participated in epidemic prevention and control at the "2022 Beijing Winter Olympics" and the "2020 Tokyo Olympics," was withdrawn from the venues of the recently concluded "Beijing Winter Olympics" and urgently redeployed to support Shanghai's coordinated epidemic prevention efforts. It emits irradiation energy at a wavelength of 222 nm, eliminating microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi. When 222 nm ultraviolet light is highly absorbed by the novel coronavirus, the cross-linking of its ribonucleic acid (RNA) helical structure is disrupted, causing it to lose its replication capability and thereby achieving disinfection. According to the novel coronavirus disinfection report issued by national authoritative institutions, "Starlight Shield" achieves a 99.9999% disinfection rate against the novel coronavirus. Within one minute, the average number of viruses is reduced from 3,542,109 to 2,920,102 viral strains, resulting in a disinfection efficiency of 82.44% within one minute.


Moreover, because the ultra-short wavelength of 222 nm is highly absorbed by biological materials, it cannot penetrate the outer layers of the skin and eyes to enter the human body, ensuring high safety for humans. Research from Columbia University shows that 222 nm light not only disinfects efficiently but is also harmless to the human body, as its specific wavelength is highly absorbed by the stratum corneum (the dead skin layer) and the tear film of the eyes, preventing damage to living cells. This enables "human-machine coexistence with real-time disinfection."


At the end of December 2021, the WHO expert workshop on Omicron and Delta introduced that the reasonable use of 222nm wavelength offers disinfection effects and efficiency superior to traditional UV disinfection methods, and specially thanked China's "Starry Light" Lumenlabs for its contributions to 222nm research.
