100% Made in China lighting equipment for the Beijing Winter Olympics closing ceremony

Beijing is the world's first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics. In fact, many members of the creative team for these Winter Games are "dual-Olympians," having participated in both the Olympic and Winter Olympic Games in different capacities. In an exclusive interview, Sha Xiaolan, director of the Beijing Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony, revealed that 14 years ago, 80% of the lighting equipment used in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games was imported, whereas this year, 100% of the equipment is made in China.

Sha Xiaolan served as the Chief Lighting Designer for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, presenting the world with a large-scale spectacle of light and shadow. This year, as the director of the closing ceremony, he discovered that the lighting equipment in our Bird's Nest, including the largest ground screen in Olympic history covering over 10,000 square meters, has achieved 100% domestic production.

Sha Xiaolan, Director of the Closing Ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics: In 2008, 80% of the technology used in the entire Bird's Nest was imported equipment, and the audio systems were 100% imported. By 2022, we used 100% Chinese products, with all domestic equipment taking the lead. In terms of lighting, all luminaires are made in China, including all LED products seen inside, which are also made in China . Even those interactive visuals were created by Chinese artists.
