On the evening of February 20, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics came to a successful close. The Chinese sports delegation fought hard and performed excellently on the field, winning 9 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals, achieving the best result in China's history of participating in the Winter Olympics. They won honor for the country and the people, and presented a wonderful ice and snow feast to the world. According to statistics, there were a total of 25 venues for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Haorse Technology Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Haorse") participated in the smart lighting construction of more than 10 venues. Haorse used digital intelligence technology achievements to empower the event, successfully completing the construction and support tasks for the Winter Olympic venues.


As a technology-driven IPO company deeply rooted in the smart sector, HORSAY has undertaken numerous Winter Olympics venue projects, including the National Ski Jumping Centre "Snow Ruyi", the National Sliding Centre "Snow Dragon", the Shougang Big Air "Snow Flying Sky", the National Aquatics Centre "Ice Cube", the National Speed Skating Oval "Ice Ribbon", the National Indoor Stadium, the National Ice Hockey Hall, the Capital Indoor Stadium, Genting Snow Park, and the Main Media Centre for the Winter Olympics. Among the many venues, Haoersai personnel were also involved in the construction and operational support of the three new "internet-famous" venues for this Winter Olympics. At the National Ski Jumping Centre "Snow Ruyi", the smart IoT management platform serves as the venue's "smart brain", creating smart application scenarios through four-dimensional coordinated control. At the National Sliding Centre "Snow Dragon", lighting functions harmoniously integrate with the landscape, pioneering a new lighting mode for bobsleigh and luge tracks. At the Big Air Shougang "Snow Feitian", emphasis is placed on diverse visual experience requirements, using innovative concepts to provide multi-dimensional support for the competitions.


Bright "Ruyi", Excellence in Craftsmanship


The National Ski Jumping Centre "Snow Ruyi" is China's first ski jumping venue to meet Olympic standards. It hosted 10 competitions during the Winter Olympics, six of which were held at night, placing high demands on its lighting and light ambiance. As the contractor for the smart lighting system and smart night-tour operation system of "Snow Ruyi", Hoursey successfully created a dazzling nighttime image for the venue, fully showcasing the ecological beauty, cultural charm, and technological innovation of the Winter Olympics.

National Ski Jumping Center "Snow Ruyi"


The "Snow Ruyi" project adheres to the principles of respecting architecture, appropriate light color, moderate luminance, green economy, and sustainable operation. In handling luminance relationships, it ensures that the overall lighting color of the ski jump, as well as the lighting effects at the top and on both wings of the track, complement each other. In terms of lighting expression techniques, the summit uses point lighting to highlight the uniqueness and integrity of the fifth facade, enabling the presentation of various pattern symbols and coordinating with aerial performance effects to form a three-dimensional interwoven dance of light. The two wings use linear lights to create a passionate and colorful dynamic effect. In contour image design, the combination of projection and facade contours strengthens the display effect of the "Snow Ruyi" silhouette, further highlighting its overall shape.


From design planning, technical demonstration, installation implementation, and content creation to intelligent integration, Horsay fully leveraged its advantages to provide full-chain integrated services and comprehensive professional integration for the "Snow Ruyi" smart lighting system, installing a "smart brain" for its lighting. The "smart brain" of "Snow Ruyi" lighting is a smart IoT management platform built on Horsay's self-developed "HAO Platform". Through the convergence and interoperability of technologies such as AI, image recognition, blockchain, and IoT, it achieves four-dimensional linkage control of "3D space + time" for different application scenarios on the same timeline, realizing the interconnectivity of sound, light, and electricity for "Snow Ruyi", allowing technology to enhance the Winter Olympics.


Light and Shadow "Wandering Dragon", Cultivating Both Inside and Out


The National Sliding Centre "Xue You Long" is known as the "Formula 1" of the venues for ice and snow sports at these Games. During the Winter Olympics, it hosted events in bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton. Due to the stringent venue requirements, "Xue You Long" became one of the newly built competition venues with high design difficulty, significant construction challenges, and complex construction techniques. In the lighting design for the "Xue You Long" project, HORS followed the planning and design concept of the Yanqing Zone: "Mountain Forest Venues, Eco-friendly Winter Olympics." Using the zone planning and architectural design as the framework, we rationally arranged the lighting to create illumination effects that harmonize with the environment.

National Sliding Center "Xueyoulong"


The light color quality of the dedicated lighting for bobsleigh and luge tracks plays a decisive role in the quality of the competition. Among these factors, how to maximize the reduction of discomfort glare for athletes is a direct factor affecting their performance. Building a track that meets competition standards and maximally showcases athletes' abilities is very challenging, requiring numerous customized solutions designed based on the illuminance effects and structural design of the track site. To this end, Haursey has created a "Anti-glare Green Lighting System" based on actual site conditions, adopting anti-glare luminaire structures to reduce glare through secondary light distribution of the luminaires, while adhering to the concept of "internal light for external use, ecological energy saving" to minimize light pollution in the surrounding environment.


Horse Lighting ensures that venue lighting meets the requirements for training mode, cleaning mode, competition mode, and HD broadcasting through computational simulations, extensive on-site testing, and multiple rounds of validation. Horse Lighting fully considers objective factors such as the competition environment and venue conditions to meet all technical requirements. By applying smart innovation to the Winter Olympics, it pioneered a new lighting model for bobsleigh and luge tracks, successfully obtaining venue Certification from two international federations, IBSF (International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation) and FIL (International Luge Federation), and passing the on-site inspection and acceptance by OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Services).


Dreamlike "Flying Sky", Form and Spirit Combined


As the first newly built competition venue in the Beijing zone of the 2022 Winter Olympics, the Shougang Big Air "Snow Feitian" will become the world's first permanently preserved and used big air venue after the Games. In terms of lighting visual expression, the project adopted a gradient scheme based on the colors of the Winter Olympics emblem, fully embodying the concept of the "Feitian" ribbon. This not only highlights the unique design elements of the Olympic logo but also echoes the overall tone of the Shougang Park.

Shougang Big Air "Snow Flying Sky"


在首钢滑雪大跳台的建设过程中,豪尔赛团队秉承既“无”又“有”的理念对项目进行科技化创新。“无”,即是在保持建筑整体性效果的情况下,尽可能隐藏灯具,使人感受不到突兀的存在;“有”,即是在满足隐藏灯具的情况下,也实现了最大程度的无炫光设置,满足首钢滑雪大跳台全方位、多角度的观赛需求。为了实现该理念的落地,豪尔赛在众多国内外顶级体育场地照明厂家中经过无数次筛选、比对、现场调试,最终达成在满足赛事场地灯光要求亮度的同时,做到“四不影响”,即不影响运动员、不影响裁判、不影响观众、不影响记者镜头,最大程度将每一束光都按照规定路线均匀地照在场地内。



OBS event broadcast lighting adds brilliance to the Winter Olympics


The Beijing Winter Olympics have become the most-watched Winter Olympics to date, setting new records in broadcast duration, technology, content production methods, and more. As a key service provider for OBS event broadcast lighting at the Beijing Winter Olympics, Halsey undertook the OBS event broadcast lighting system services for a series of Winter Olympic venues, including the Shougang Ski Jump "Snow Flying Dragon," the National Aquatics Center "Ice Cube," the National Speed Skating Oval "Ice Ribbon," the National Indoor Stadium, the National Ice Hockey Arena, the Capital Indoor Stadium, Genting Snow Park, and the Main Media Center of the Winter Olympics. With a team of over 70 people, we carried out cross-regional, cross-seasonal, and cross-temperature-difference operations across different venues, organically integrating broadcast lighting work with other specialized tasks, thereby laying a smart foundation for numerous smart application scenarios at the Winter Olympics.

Providing OBS broadcast lighting for Winter Olympic venues is a highly challenging, precise, and professionally demanding task, as broadcast lighting must achieve the fundamental goal of producing natural, three-dimensional visual effects with light at any location in the competition area. Since each camera in Winter Olympic venues has a different field of view, the position of every light source in the venue lighting plan is critical. With over 20 years of successful experience in the lighting industry and a complete set of intelligent control technologies developed for international sports venue construction, Haursey applied these to comprehensive venue lighting management. In the OBS broadcast lighting system solution, the Hoursey technical team places great emphasis on luminance levels that affect broadcast cameras, minimizing reflection and glare from each light beam on cameras at those positions. To better serve the broadcasting requirements for the first large-scale use of 8K technology, Hoursey follows OBS broadcast lighting requirements and conducts professional designs tailored to the venue environments of different stadiums. From installation methods and equipment customization to imaging effects, everything is optimized to meet the diverse requirements of national broadcasters such as NBC and NHK. This not only satisfies ultra-high-definition broadcasting needs and faithfully restores true appearances such as skin tone and texture, truly "adding luster" to Winter Olympic athletes, but also allows athletes to focus more on their performance, thereby ensuring they achieve outstanding results.


To effectively control glare in the arena, the Hourse team used a smart system to calculate the aiming point of each luminaire, ensuring that the elevation angle from the lowest point of each aiming area to the luminaire is greater than 45°, thereby cleverly and reasonably avoiding direct light impact on athletes and spectators. In addition, Hourse applied many advanced technological achievements to this Winter Olympics. For the first time, the venue exclusively adopted LED light sources, achieving significant improvements in CRI, color temperature, uniformity, SDCM, and illuminance standards. This not only resolved issues such as flicker and glare but also created a more comfortable lighting environment for athletes, spectators, and broadcast teams.


From the passionate Summer Olympics in 2008 to the tech-driven Winter Olympics in 2022, HORS has adhered to long-term lighting practices, supporting the construction of the "Dual Olympic City" with quality projects. The HORS team closely followed the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics' requirements of "simplicity, safety, and splendor," combining lighting technology with IoT technology to support athletes and enhance the Winter Olympics, once again delivering a satisfactory answer for the preparation, construction, and support services of grand international sports events.
