Update of Saudi Energy Efficiency Standards for Lighting Products

The Saudi energy efficiency standards for lighting products have been updated. Below are some of the updated details.

1. The requirements for electrical parameters in Clause 10.3 have been changed:
Change the control gear operating voltage from 120-277V, 60Hz to include the Saudi standard voltage of 230V, 60Hz.

1. Some reference standards have been removed, as detailed below:

2. Add to Clause 4.1 on Energy efficiency requirements:
During registration, the SLS system allows models that differ only in color temperature but share identical product technical specifications to use the same test report.
3. The marking requirements in Clause 4.3 have been changed:
For lamps intended for special purposes, the following must be indicated on the packaging:
Trademark, model name, rated power, rated voltage, rated luminous flux, rated color temperature, country of origin, intended use.
4. The markings in Annex E have been changed:
Change Nominal power to Rated power (Watt).
5. Packaging changes:
Added on the original basis: rated power factor, rated color rendering index.
6. Label design has been changed:
If the packaging is less than 43 mm in width and 45 mm in height, reduce the size of the energy efficiency label and place it on the packaging;
Additionally, during registration, a separate QR code will be generated and printed on the packaging.

1. Some reference standards have been removed, as detailed below:

2. Technical definitions have been changed:
Delete: Definition of decorative luminaires; definition of decorative pendant lights.
3. Marking requirements have changed:
For lamps intended for special purposes, the following must be indicated on the packaging:
Trademark, model name, rated power, rated voltage, rated luminous flux, rated color temperature, country of origin, intended use.
4. Family registration requirements have changed:
Apply for all models using the lowest-performance model, provided that:
1. Luminous flux;
2. All models are of the same type;
3. All models have the same manufacturer and country of origin;
4. All models have the same energy efficiency class;
5. For products within the same family, the ratio of minimum to maximum luminous flux must not exceed 100%.
5. Amendment to Clause B.1.2: Exempted products are not intended for lighting purposes:
Delete: Decorative Lighting Clause
Added: Lamps and luminaires that cannot be tested by reference to standards.
6. Functional and durability requirements for non-directional fluorescent lamps:
Added: Luminous flux maintenance rate and survival rate at 2000h are allowed.
7. Regarding non-directional and directional LED light sources and luminaires:
Addition: During registration, it is permitted to provide the 6000-hour luminous flux maintenance rate and survival rate according to IEC 62722 or LM-84. If an IEC 62717 or LM-80 report is provided, it is permitted to provide the 2000-hour luminous flux maintenance rate and survival rate according to IEC 62722 or LM-84.
8. Change the marking requirements for non-directional light sources and luminaires:
Change Nominal power to Rated power (Watt).
9. Changes to packaging information requirements:
On the original basis, change "rated effective luminous flux" to "rated luminous flux".
10. Packaging information requirements for drivers and ballasts have been changed:
Add: trademark, model name, country of origin, rated voltage and flicker, rated driver efficiency, rated input power, rated power factor, rated ambient temperature, and rated Tc temperature.
11. The power efficiency requirements for control devices of halogen lamps and LED lamps have been changed:
The driver efficiency of the control gear for halogen lamps shall be at least 0.91 under full load;
The minimum limit of driver efficiency for LED lamp control devices is calculated according to the following formula:

12. Change the luminaire energy efficiency class (EEI) requirements:
Calculate the energy efficiency class EEI, rounded to two decimal places.
13. Change market spot-check criteria:
There is no limit on the number of samples for spot checks.
