As consumer demographics shift, the younger generation places increasing importance on their home environment, particularly pursuing personalized, refined, and intelligent indoor lighting. "Smart control" has also become a key focus for consumers. Therefore, the introduction of emerging product standards, along with the speed and quality of certification services based on these standards, are crucial.

On November 6, 2021, the certification ceremony for the world's first UL Market Claim Verification Certificate for Human centric lighting (HCL) intelligent control systems, awarded by UL to Hangzhou Tuya Information Technology Co., Ltd., and the signing ceremony of the framework cooperation agreement between UL and Tuya Smart were held at the China International Import Expo. The issuance of this certificate will further help Tuya Smart accelerate its global market promotion and enhance its brand influence.

UL DG 24480: How to implement guide lights in specific digital scenarios

As a global expert in safety science, UL has always been customer-centric, gaining comprehensive insights into customers' potential needs.

To keep pace with the rapidly evolving market demands, UL not only meets the basic market access safety requirements, as well as needs related to energy efficiency, energy saving, and electromagnetic compatibility, but also encourages the industry to pursue higher standards. A significant part of UL's Market Claim Verification service covers the IoT and interoperability domain, with UL aiming to establish system-level standards to provide guidance for the market.

2019年,UL推出了针对人因节律照明控制体系的DG 24480 设计指南,该指南可以为客户提供更好的健康照明应用方案。

The concept of UL DG 24480 is not merely about controlling lights, but about how lights are implemented in specific digital scenarios. It converts them into digital data, applies algorithms, compiles the data into code that Tuya Cloud can understand, and then deploys it to specific application scenarios.

UL DG 24480 has a highlight: for building energy saving and emission reduction as well as health indicators, there is a verification service. This verification service is an enhancement and a follow-up to the UL DG 24480 scenario verification service. UL DG 24480 actually covers many points, not only regarding products and the light emitted by light sources, but also involving the spectrum. It addresses how much luminous intensity irradiation or what kind of color temperature is required in scenarios throughout the four seasons, all of which are related to people.

Therefore, from the component level to the final application scenarios, the study of light runs through the entire process. From the earliest color temperature and color rendering to current light quality, distortion, fidelity, saturation, and color reproduction, all are covered in the standards. The main purpose is to provide guidance through research on what kind of light is suitable for people in different environments.

UL ensures that corporate investments are meaningful through standards

In the collaboration between UL and Tuya Smart, Tuya provides a global IoT development platform. UL can help enterprises wishing to participate join Tuya's platform, demonstrating that the products manufactured within the entire system comply with standards and achieve interoperability.

At the signing ceremony with Tuya, Kang Jingqi, UL's Global Vice President and General Manager of the Appliances, HVAC&R, and Lighting (AHL) division, said:

"Tuya has its unique inherent advantages. Many companies focus on their own domains, leading to a fragmented industry landscape. Tuya's IoT development platform enables a shared economy and avoids waste from redundant investments. UL supports implementation through standards, enhancing the platform's scalability. Once enterprises enter the public cloud and achieve interconnectivity, they step into a whole new world. Under new internet technologies, e-commerce has revealed more possibilities, allowing real economy and manufacturing sectors to leverage e-commerce models for greater potential. We look forward to collaborating with Tuya, upholding an objective, fair, and scientific approach to share technological achievements."

The essence of the "Internet of Everything" is "people connecting to everything." With the development of various smart technologies and sensors, people connecting to everything will be realized through more specific scenarios. The scenario-based application of lighting reflects further market penetration and segmentation. People are the ultimate服务对象 of all products. Human-centric or people-oriented product design needs to be guided by various quantitative methods. UL is committed to establishing a dialogue channel with end consumers through standards or marketing claim verification services.
