2021 China Landscape Lighting Industry Conference Concludes Successfully in Hangzhou

At the Landscape Lighting Forum in China, 3 moderators and 16 experts were specially invited to share cutting-edge information on technological innovation and cross-border cooperation in landscape lighting from multiple perspectives, including urban renewal, lighting planning, smart lighting, cultural tourism lighting, nightscape parks, and urban management. They explored the relationship between landscape lighting and related business formats and professional sub-sectors of the night-tourism economy, reached a consensus on development concepts and new models for landscape lighting in the new era, and recognized the new advantages of the landscape lighting industry in its development during this new period.

Professor Chang Zhigang, Executive Deputy Director of the High-Precision Innovation Center for Visual Arts at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, China Director of the MAIC International Media Architecture Institute, Chairman of the MAB18 International Media Architecture Biennale, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Illuminating Engineering Society, and Director of the Visual and Color Research Center of the Beijing Urban Planning Society, delivered a keynote speech titled "Lighting Empowers the Cultural Tourism Industry—Starting from the Night Scenes of the Forbidden City and Daxing Airport".

Professor Chang used the night scenes of the Forbidden City in Beijing and Beijing Daxing International Airport as examples to illustrate that luminaires, as the nerve endings of the urban skin, possess the basic functions of becoming IoT terminals. Accurate cultural positioning and control over the integration of smart lighting technology and art can enable touching history through light, highlighting historical and cultural values, enhancing urban characteristics, and showcasing the relationship between humans and nature, as well as between the material and the spiritual. Facing the IoT era, artistic intervention is both an opportunity and a responsibility. Starting from visual arts to participate in smart city innovation strategies, practicing the Internet of Everything through interactive design, achieving cross-boundary integration through the concept of technological art, and leading industry development.

In his report "Urban Renewal and the Urban Landscape Lighting Industry," Han Mingqing, Associate Professor at Zhejiang University City College, Director of the Urban Management Research Center at ZUCC, Executive Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Illuminating Engineering Society and Chair of its Lighting Design Professional Committee, former Deputy Director of the Hangzhou Municipal Lighting Office, and Leader of the Technical Group for Street Appearance Renovation and Environmental Enhancement in Preparation for the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, as well as a consultant for lighting enhancement projects in cities such as Xiamen, Guangzhou, and Qingdao, stated that urban renewal is the main form of urbanization as China enters the era of new-type urbanization, and an important lever for achieving high-quality development and high-quality life. Urban landscape lighting is a natural requirement for beautiful cities and people's better lives, and will inevitably become an integral part of urban renewal. The call for high-quality landscape lighting in urban renewal points the way for the development of the landscape lighting industry: high-level design, high-quality products, high-quality integrated construction, and efficient operation and maintenance.

Jiao Shengjun, Dean of the Smart City Lighting Research Institute at Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences), Senior Engineer, Professor in the lighting industry, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shandong Lighting Society and Director of the Landscape Lighting Professional Committee, and an expert in the engineering and technology category of the Shandong Provincial Popular Science Expert Talent Pool, delivered a keynote speech titled "From Smart Lighting to Smart Cities".

He stated: A smart city is a large-scale system involving cross-system interactions, requiring a central nervous system-like urban command center with comprehensive, real-time, and full-data decision-making capabilities—known as the City Brain, which is a "system of systems." Taking multiple cases of landscape lighting evolving from basic illumination and aesthetic enhancement to integrated intelligent control with related business facilities, our goal is to leverage extensive data research to connect existing landscape lighting, functional lighting, and other municipal infrastructure with smart city backend data, thereby building a thinking City Brain.

Keynote speech titled "Landscape Lighting+" by Shen Wei, Vice President of Zhejiang Urban Construction Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd., Dean of the Lighting Branch, Senior Engineer, and Chairman of the Hangzhou Urban Lighting Industry Association. Starting from the premise that light can activate people's imagination for a better life, he elaborated through a series of successful cases that the core competitiveness of landscape lighting lies in the technologies related to planning, implementation, and operation within the "Landscape Lighting+" framework. This approach ensures that landscape lighting projects are tailored to local conditions, customized, and continuously innovated, creating nightscape spaces with distinct regional cultural characteristics that stimulate public vitality. He also shared updates on the urban landscape lighting improvement projects in Hangzhou in preparation for the Asian Games, as well as lighting design cases for Asian Games venues.

Sun Jingmin, Director of the Third Design Institute at Shandong Tsinghua Kangli Urban Lighting Research and Design Institute Co., Ltd., Guest Lecturer at Shandong Urban Construction College, and Lead Creator of the Champion Team in the 2020 China Landscape Lighting Creative Design Competition National Finals, delivered a keynote report titled "The Circle Effect of the Rise of Generation Z · The New Era of Cultural Tourism Consumption." The report posits that innovation, integration, and upgrading have gradually become industry consensus in landscape lighting. In this new atmosphere of seeking change through innovation, how can we find new directions? By viewing the development trends of cultural tourism + creative lighting from the perspective of youth vision, standing at the forefront of design and development operations, how can we use "youth-oriented brands" to ignite the night-time economy?

Chen Hao, Marketing Director of Shenzhen MOSO Electronics Technology Co., Ltd., stated in his keynote speech "High-Performance Drivers Boosting the Development of Landscape Lighting": In the post-pandemic era, local governments at all levels have proposed night tourism economies, leading to an increase in urban nightscape improvement projects and the proliferation of cultural and creative initiatives as well as characteristic towns. Combined with continuous breakthroughs and applications of technologies represented by 5G, AI, and big data, this promotes the development of smart cities, causing the landscape lighting market to expand steadily. Under the new dual-circulation development pattern dominated by domestic circulation, combined with "New Infrastructure", consumption upgrades represented by the night tourism economy are boosting the development of landscape lighting. As the most basic and important component supporting landscape lighting, LED drivers / power supplies face challenges brought about by technological upgrades.

Hu Yi, Deputy Chief Engineer and Senior Engineer at Beijing Tsinghua Tongheng Urban Planning & Design Institute Co., Ltd., presented "Creating Value with Light—Reflections on Urban Renewal." Through a series of urban lighting planning and design cases, he demonstrated that in the new era of urban renewal, light can craft a unique identity for every city and every carrier, thereby achieving co-created value.

Xu Songyan, Chief Engineer and Senior Engineer of Hangzhou Yongdian Lighting Co., Ltd., and Executive Director of the China Association of Lighting Industry (CALI), delivered a keynote report titled "Chinese Aesthetic Lighting Goes Global." It is Chief Engineer Xu's aspiration to let China's beautiful outdoor lighting illuminate the world. From LED secondary packaging point light sources and the intelligent control lighting system for the Shanghai World Expo, to smart management cloud platforms, Faravo bionic luminaires, and highly refined 3D alloy printing materials and products, Yongdian Lighting has brought Chinese aesthetic lighting to the global stage through continuous technological innovation, reliable product quality, and sincere service. Its products have entered more than 70 countries, completed over 20,000 projects, and established the company as a leader in niche segments of the global lighting industry.

Tang Lizhong, Chairman of Binhe Environmental Construction Group Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech titled "Reflections on Urban Management and Operations." Standing from the perspective of an urban management operator, Chairman Tang elucidated the topics of "development" and "adaptation to change" in lighting during the digital age, focusing on the broader direction of how lighting engineering design and construction enterprises can keep pace with urban development. Drawing on his many years of experience in urban management and operations, he broke down the subject into multiple directions such as "creating premium works with craftsmanship," "establishing image through standardized management," and "winning the market through innovation and adaptation," providing detailed analysis. This led to multi-dimensional discussions covering cities, lighting, development, and services, aiming to enhance urban service quality, practice the concept of comprehensive urban operational services, and promote high-quality urban development.

Tan Bo, General Manager of the Smart City Business Division at Zhongzhu Tianyou Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech titled "Reflections on Urban Lighting Design in the Digital Era." The presentation provided an accessible yet profound analysis from an informatization perspective, examining how urban landscape lighting and lighting enterprises can enhance their adaptive capabilities and meet diversified demands by aligning with the needs of smart city construction in the context of comprehensive digital city implementation.

Fang Shenli, Vice President and Artistic Director of Hangzhou Shuixiu Culture Group Co., Ltd., in "Shuixiu: Illuminating the Night Sky with the Light of Culture," elaborates on cases such as the cross-media water show "Happy Water Paradise" at the Taizhou Fengcheng River Scenic Area, where water, mist, and light intertwine. He explains that night tourism requires technological support: the newer the technology, the better; the older the culture, the more fragrant it becomes.

Professor Xiao Hui from the College of Electronics and Information Engineering at Tongji University, who serves as Deputy Director of the Architectural Electrical and Intelligence Professional Committee under the Ministry of Education, Director of the Intelligent Control Professional Committee of the China Illuminating Engineering Society, and Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Shanghai Illuminating Engineering Society, delivered a report titled "Research on Smart Cities and Intelligent Light Environments." The report focuses on major backgrounds such as national dual-carbon goals, cultural tourism lighting, the night-time economy, and light health. By analyzing current issues in smart city and light environment construction, it elaborates on the significant importance and urgency of building an integrated urban lighting management and control system, and proposes a sustainable development model for urban lighting based on multi-objective integration.

Xu Honghua, Senior Engineer at China United Engineering Corporation, presents the design philosophy of nightscape / landscape lighting engineering through case studies in "Natural Harmony, Warm and Delicate, Full of Vitality," elaborating on scientific planning of light layers, careful selection of luminaire facilities, integration with landscape carriers, and achieving natural harmony.

"Floodlighting on Solitary Hill: Aesthetic Reflections on the Night View of West Lake" is a timely work by Zhu Jianxiu, Director of the Lighting Research Center at China Academy of Art Landscape Architecture Design Institute Co., Ltd., and has garnered 27,500 views.

Fu Chuangye, General Manager and Senior Engineer of Zhejiang Ouruijie Lighting Technology Co., Ltd. and Vice Chairman of the Huzhou Urban Lighting Association, presented "Application of Landscape Lighting in Parks and Gardens under the New Situation." Using several application cases, he illustrated how to create a comfortable and pleasant light environment for park river landscapes, integrating with nature through lighting techniques and solutions that balance dynamic and static elements.

Han Qiwen, Executive Deputy Director of the Landscape Lighting Professional Committee of the China Association of Lighting Industry (CALI), Director of the Low-Carbon Lighting Research Center of the Chinese Society for Urban Studies, and Senior Engineer, presented "Urban Renewal and Nightscape Parks." He introduced designs utilizing lighting sculptures, landscape lighting, and stage art technologies, integrated with underutilized park spaces in the evenings. This approach significantly enhances the nighttime recreational functions of parks, improves residents' nighttime cultural life, strengthens public health and epidemic resistance, and fosters a sense of belonging and happiness. Meanwhile, it was announced that the Nightscape Park project has passed the appraisal by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and been listed as a promotion project. There are planning, design, and implementation tasks for 50 nightscape parks in the near future, and cooperation from industry colleagues is welcomed.

The third task of the 2021 China Landscape Lighting Industry Conference was to award the "2020 CALI Landscape Lighting Award" certificates and plaques. Mr. Wen Qidong, Secretary-General of the China Association of Lighting Industry (CALI); Mr. Xu Xiaorong, Director of the Landscape Lighting Professional Committee of CALI; Executive Deputy Directors Han Qiwen, Zeng Chuan, and Chen Rubing; Deputy Directors Zhou Yu and Yu Jinshou; Secretary-General Wang Qin; heads of social organizations from Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Hubei, and other regions; and experts from colleges and universities including Wang Zhengtao, Wang Xiaoming, Li Guobin, He Bingyun, Ling Yingming, Shen Ru, Huang Jindong, Chen Gang, Ju Peng, Jiang Xiaofang, Han Mingqing, and Zhang Yue presented the awards to the winners.

The China Landscape Lighting Industry Conference aims to build a platform for technical exchange, conceptual innovation, and resource sharing in the landscape lighting industry, bringing industry peers closer together and exploring more ways to gather and collaborate.
