Retrofit projects span over twenty cities nationwide

As an industry leader, Yili Group boasts a comprehensive product line. To enhance product quality and output, it launched a project to upgrade the lighting environment in dairy barns by modernizing the lighting system.

Youchang has retrofitted more than twenty pastures for Yili Group, including Huanggang Pasture, Wuxue Pasture, Changqing Pasture, Yangba Pasture, and Fuxin Pasture. Projects are distributed across Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chengdu, and other regions nationwide.

Increase milk yield and quality

Youchang adjusts lighting schedules on ranches with intelligent livestock lighting solutions, managing dairy cows' biological clocks using photoperiod principles.

As early as 2015, researchers at Michigan State University in the United States demonstrated through a year-long 2014 trial at the WingAcres dairy farm in Barry County that lighting is crucial for animal growth. It significantly impacts the growth, development, and lactation of dairy cows; appropriately extending lighting hours can enhance weight gain and milk production.

During winter, daylight hours are short. Using artificial lighting to simulate the natural summer environment, with a cycle of approximately 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness, can increase milk production. Studies have shown that reasonable artificial lighting supplementation can increase daily feed intake by 1.1 kg and boost milk yield by 8–10%.

Following on-site surveys, Youchang divided the dairy barn area by function into: cow passageways, resting areas, feeding passageways, and feed delivery lanes. An analysis of illuminance requirements for each zone revealed the following current conditions in the barn: 1. Illuminance levels are all below the minimum requirement of 50 lux, with some areas between two luminaires even falling below 10 lux; 2. Luminance is uneven, resulting in alternating bright and dark zones; 3. Luminaires are dirty, failed lamps have not been replaced promptly, and flicker is present; 4. High-wattage luminaires lead to excessive energy consumption due to lack of proper management, with lights left on throughout the night.

In response to the above issues, Youchang systematically carried out lighting retrofit work for the cowsheds at Yili Ranch. By using professional LED luminaires from the SZF series (SZF100, SZF101) combined with an intelligent control system, increased illumination was achieved in the ranch cowsheds while delivering high-efficiency energy saving results.

After the barn renovation, milk yield of lactating cows increased by 8–10%; growth rate of replacement heifers improved along with enhanced udder development; dry cow feed intake rose by 12%, leading to a 5–8% increase in milk production in the next lactation period. This renovation effectively improved both milk quality and output in the barn, receiving unanimous praise from Yili Group and local farm managers.
