Application of solar street lights in energy saving, emission reduction, and achieving carbon neutrality
To achieve the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, the development of new energy is accelerating comprehensively. Recently, the National Energy Administration issued the "Notice on Matters Concerning the Development and Construction of Wind Power and Photovoltaic Power Generation in 2021," which explicitly requires that the proportion of wind and photovoltaic power generation in total national electricity consumption reach approximately 11% in 2021, with annual increases thereafter, ensuring that non-fossil energy accounts for about 20% of primary energy consumption by 2025. From a medium- to long-term perspective, the targets for carbon peaking, carbon neutrality, and raising the share of non-fossil energy in primary energy consumption to around 25% by 2030 are clearly defined. Photovoltaics and other technologies will play a significant role in future carbon emission reduction, and photovoltaic power generation is gradually becoming an important direction for energy structure reform in countries worldwide.
A solar street light is a small, standalone solar photovoltaic power generation system, consisting of solar panels, energy storage devices, luminaires, controllers, and more. It provides electrical energy through solar photoelectric conversion. Solar street lights are pollution-free, noiseless, and radiation-free, offering environmental protection and easy installation, bringing significant practical advantages to municipal engineering projects.
Below, we will briefly list a few application cases of solar street lights in energy saving, emission reduction, and achieving carbon neutrality.
1. Technical renovation of street light solar batteries on certain road sections in Yuhang District, Hangzhou
The urban management department of Yuhang District, Hangzhou, upgraded street lights on certain road sections. The CIGS ultra-thin flexible thin-film solar cell technology applied to the surface of the street lights is seamlessly bonded and perfectly integrated with the pole body. Combined with grid-connected and off-grid energy storage technologies, it ensures efficient power generation under conditions such as humidity, dust, and fog, becoming the core element of the entire pole. Meanwhile, by integrating the latest IoT, big data, and artificial intelligence technologies, it transforms the area into a truly green, zero-energy-consumption block.
2. Ningbo's First Modern Urban Carbon Neutrality Comprehensive Demonstration Zone
On June 11, construction began on Ningbo's first modern urban carbon-neutral comprehensive demonstration zone in Wanddi Village, Yinzhou District. It is understood that the plan is to build a modern urban comprehensive demonstration zone featuring "carbon neutrality, lighting services, digital intelligence, and rural revitalization" within two to three years. To develop this modern urban carbon-neutral comprehensive demonstration zone, more projects will commence here in the future, including plans to install integrated solar-storage street lights in the demonstration area.
3. Green Energy Saving Projects in "Belt and Road" Countries
Countries participating in the "Belt and Road Initiative" have made some beneficial attempts in jointly promoting green development. For example, the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, established in 2016, installed "wind + solar" street lights along all main roads within the first phase of its expansion area (2 square kilometers), becoming the first industrial park in Egypt to extensively use street lights powered by green energy.
4. Africa Region
In tropical countries, solar street lights have a significant market. In recent years, many African nations have introduced energy saving and environmental protection initiatives. Contractors who secure government orders often seek Chinese suppliers on international platforms. For over a decade, Chinese-made solar street lights have crossed oceans to reach Africa, absorbing solar radiation during the day to store as electrical energy, and discharging at night to illuminate streets, alleys, campuses, and dormitories across the continent.
Kaiyuan has been in the solar street light sector for 10 years. Our street lights are installed across China and exported to over 156 countries and regions worldwide, with cumulative domestic and international sales exceeding 1 million units. In the domestic market, we mainly collaborate with large state-owned enterprises, lighting companies with Class A qualifications, and listed lighting companies. In the international market, our products are mainly exported to African, Southeast Asian, and Middle Eastern countries.

Considering regional differences and varying lighting conditions, Kaiyuan solar street lights are designed with rotatable solar panels from the details up, enabling multi-angle adjustment to adapt to different regional lighting environments. The color temperature can also be adjusted according to seasonal changes, with switchable warm and cool light from 3000K to 5700K to meet the lighting needs of different environments.
