Hangzhou Xiacheng District upgraded 19,934 eye-protection lamps, achieving 100% coverage of classroom lighting renovation.

This year, Xiacheng District became the first in Hangzhou's main urban area to include "100% full coverage of lighting renovation for public primary, secondary, and kindergarten classrooms" in its district-level livelihood projects. By the end of November, Xiacheng District took the lead in achieving 100% full coverage of eye-care lighting fixtures in all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens across the district.

To date, Xiacheng District has completed renovations in 70 school campuses, installing 19,934 eye-care classroom lights and 1,609 control feedback units, with a total investment of 7.78436 million yuan in the classroom lighting improvement project.

In the early stage, the Xiacheng District organized relevant experts to conduct on-site inspections of schools within its jurisdiction. Based on the current lighting conditions, the number of light sources in classrooms, and the effects of lighting after renovations in recent years, a "one school, one brand, one plan" renovation strategy was formulated. To achieve the goal of bright yet non-glaring lighting, the expert panel and the procurement department held multiple consultations to develop bidding methods aligned with current lighting standards.

Before the renovation, traditional Fluorescent lamp had issues such as flicker and Illuminance. Therefore, this renovation referenced advanced practices in Shanghai and other regions to improve six dimensions, including classroom Illuminance, uniformity, flicker, and Glare rating (GR), creating a healthy light environment to prevent myopia in students. During the bidding process, CNAS certificates certified by national authoritative testing institutions were provided for the lighting environment requirements of the sample rooms, entrusting professional tasks to professional entities to achieve greater precision, professionalism, and optimal results.

Students at the Jietan Campus of Anji Road Experimental School are studying under the upgraded eye-protection lights. The flat-panel eye-protection lights installed in the classrooms have a wider surface area compared to traditional fluorescent lamps and use LED light sources. When the eye-protection lights are fully on, the classroom is very bright with soft lighting. Blackboard lights are also installed in the classrooms, and both types of lights are smart. A mobile app can control the on/off status of the eye-protection lights , and on the App , you can also view the on/off status and illuminance (illuminance is a physical quantity that reflects light intensity) of the eye-protection lights in each classroom at the Jietan Temple campus of the school.

All eye-protection lamps in the classrooms of the Jietan School Headquarters are now 100% "IoT-enabled," allowing logistics staff to monitor classroom illuminance in real time.

It is reported that installing eye-protection lamps is not simply replacing the luminaire with an eye-protection lamp. Relevant persons in charge of the winning enterprises stated that to ensure optimal lighting effects, the school's eye-protection lamps underwent rigorous optical calculations. This renovation added light sensor modules to automatically collect illuminance data for each classroom and upload it to the platform, achieving centralized cloud-based control.

Now, the brightness of classroom lighting has significantly improved. Whether it is the blackboard or the students' desks, both illuminance and light uniformity have been greatly enhanced, and the flicker issue has been resolved, ensuring that teachers and students can concentrate during class, improving the quality of teaching and learning.

The lighting renovation for public primary, secondary, and kindergarten classrooms is a significant step in the Xiacheng District's "Eye Protection Project." Leveraging this district-level livelihood initiative, Xiacheng Education has implemented measures such as improving the vision health evaluation system, enforcing academic burden reduction, promoting sunny sports activities, and establishing tiered assessment mechanisms. These efforts ensure that eye care actions yield tangible results, jointly safeguarding children's eyesight.
