Samsung Electronics plans to release its first Mini LED TV in 2021

According to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics plans to release its first Mini LED TV in 2021. It is reported that Samsung Electronics is currently developing a Mini LED TV that uses ultra-small LEDs with diameters of 100 to 300 micrometers as the backlight source. When these LEDs are closely arranged and used as a light source, the screen becomes brighter and the image quality clearer.

The company originally planned to complete the production of necessary components in the first half of this year and then launch this TV on the market in the second half. However, reports in August indicated that the company had not yet started component production, so the product launch has been postponed to next year.

Compared to standard LCD TVs, Mini LED TVs offer better picture quality thanks to improved contrast, and are more affordable than OLED TVs.

In addition, Samsung Electronics stated that Mini LED TVs will offer a better experience than the QLED smart TVs currently on the market. It is reported that the company plans to produce 2 million units of such TVs next year.

Previously, some Chinese brands launched Mini LED TVs. For example, in early August this year, TCL released a Mini LED screen TV, whose most notable feature is the support of Mini LED display backlight technology and up to 120Hz variable refresh rate.

OSRAM approves AMS control and profit-and-loss transfer agreement

Yesterday, OSRAM held an extraordinary general meeting in Munich to vote on the control and profit-and-loss transfer agreement with its major shareholder ams (AMS). The agreement was approved with 99.77% of the votes in favor, meeting the statutory requirement of at least 75% quorum.

OSRAM CEO Olaf Berlien stated: "Based on the control and profit transfer agreement, OSRAM and ams will further drive the integration of the companies. We will work together to become the leader in the global optoelectronic solutions market."

The General Meeting also confirmed the new appointments to the Supervisory Board, with Hans Peter Metzler, Thomas Stockmeier, and Johann Eitner appointed as new members.

Before the extraordinary general meeting was convened, ams held approximately 70% of OSRAM's outstanding shares. Under the agreement, ams will pay compensation of EUR 45.54 per share to OSRAM's remaining minority shareholders, or an annual payment equivalent to approximately 5% of the compensation amount (net EUR 2.24/gross EUR 2.57).

The control and profit transfer agreement will take effect upon commercial registration in Munich, is expected to be formally implemented around the end of this year, and the merged company will be officially established in early 2021. At that time, OSRAM and ams will be able to leverage synergies, achieve complementary advantages, enhance competitiveness, and drive technological and product innovation.
