5G Smart Street Lights Deployed in Ezhou, Hubei

The 5G smart streetlights in Ezhou City are located on the Wuwang Gongguan section of Yanjiang Avenue, from the intersection with Jiangbi Road to the intersection with Nanpu Road, covering a total length of 512 meters. Since January this year, the Street Light Management Center of Ezhou Power Supply Company has carried out the overall design and construction in accordance with the principles of "5G priority, functional expansion, Ezhou characteristics, advanced technology, and economic feasibility." The total investment for this project is 1.7 million yuan, and it has now been fully completed.

On this road section, the biggest difference between smart streetlights and ordinary street lights lies in their poles. The poles of smart streetlights are not only equipped with displays and small speakers, but also feature a dual-lamp design.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Street Light Management Center of State Grid Ezhou Company, smart light poles involve converting the original 17 ordinary 11-meter light poles into 5G smart light poles, including 2 full-function smart poles and 15 classic smart poles.

Smart streetlights enable six major functions: first, 5G infrastructure deployment, taking the lead in achieving full 5G network coverage and providing installation conditions for 5G small cells; second, multi-pole integration, pioneering the integration of multiple poles in urban public areas to reduce roadside pole structures; third, supporting new energy development, leading the demonstration of electric vehicle charging; fourth, outdoor new media platforms, building a 5G new media avenue along the riverside boulevard; fifth, emergency management, becoming Ezhou's first urban emergency management road for timely release of authoritative information; sixth, smart management, achieving intelligent management of urban infrastructure.

According to relevant experts, the top of the smart pole is the installation site for 5G micro base stations, and it also features advanced energy management capabilities. As the functions of smart streetlights are fully developed, citizens will also be able to enjoy convenient wireless charging services on smart poles.

Equipped with internationally standardized electric vehicle charging interfaces, it provides efficient charging services for various electric vehicles. Additionally, with advanced V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technology, electric vehicles can serve as mobile energy storage units, supplying emergency power to the grid during demand response events. It is reported that currently, only Wuhan and Ezhou in our province have deployed smart streetlights, which are still in the pilot and exploration phase.

According to the person in charge of the Ezhou Street Light Management Center of the State Grid, the newly introduced 5G smart poles are the domestically leading new-generation smart poles selected through extensive evaluation and comparison, in accordance with the Ezhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government's requirements for "refined civilization creation," "smart civilization creation," and "serving people's livelihood." Unlike traditional street lights, smart poles possess social attributes such as "functional integration," "intelligent management," and "streamlined services." Street lights no longer merely provide illumination for the city but have become the nerve endings that perceive and serve the city. By equipping smart devices to collect and sense various urban data in real time, and transmitting it via 5G networks to the urban big data platform, in-depth analysis of various big data is conducted under intelligent platform management, providing a data foundation for refined and smart urban management.
