The European Lighting Association calls for UV-C technology to be included in the EU retrofit plan

According to reports, Lighting Europe has established a UV-C expert group to promote the advantages of UV-C disinfection technology and stimulate European market demand and fair market access.

Lionel Brunet, President of Lighting Europe, stated: "The challenge we face is to shift regulators' understanding of UV-C from special applications to mass-market solutions for buildings and transportation, where the concentration of human activity increases infection risk." "As Lighting Europe, we have a responsibility to engage with UV-C as part of our Lighting Revolution initiative. Our goal is to educate authorities and the market about existing industry guidelines and standards, and to promote the application of UV-C solutions."

Lighting Europe stated that UV-C is used to disinfect water, air, and surfaces in industrial, commercial, medical, public, and residential environments. UV-C disinfection technology is an effective tool against microorganisms and viruses (including SaRS-CoV-2) and has significant advantages in assisting the fight against COVID-19.

Previously, Lighting Europe had already published a position paper on the benefits of using UV-C to combat COVID-19 and is currently in contact with European regulators.

Lighting Europe calls for:

The European Commission explicitly mentions the installation of UV-C disinfection products in the EU Renovation Wave;

Member State authorities include UV-C disinfection technology in their national renovation and climate plans;

Market supervision authorities ensure that existing rules are correctly applied and enforced.
