On September 15, 2020, DLC released the official version of the Plant Light V2.0 standard and it will be implemented starting March 21, 2021. Until then, all plant light DLC applications will continue to be reviewed according to the V1.2 standard requirements.

Plant Light V2.0 Official Release Update Content

Maintain the PPE ≥ 1.9 μmol/J requirement of V1.2 unchanged

In the first draft of Plant Light V2.0, the DLC planned to increase the PPE (photosynthetic photon efficiency) value to 2.10 μmol/J. However, after collecting feedback on the draft, the DLC realized that plant lighting is an emerging market. To ensure sustainable market development, the DLC decided to maintain the current PPE photosynthetic photon efficiency requirement of the V1.2 standard unchanged, while also keeping the -5% tolerance unchanged.

Additionally, DLC added two optional reporting parameters: photon flux and efficiency parameters in the 280-800nm range, as radiation in this range is typically associated with plant growth and development effects.

02 Revise terminology to comply with ASABE (S640)

DLC revised some policy terms to better align with the definition of ANSI/ASABE S640 by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE).

03 Safety certification requirements must comply with UL8800

Safety certificates obtained for plant lighting products must be issued by an OSHA NRTL or SCC organization and comply with the ANSI/UL8800 (ANSI/CAN/UL/ULC 8800) standard.

04 Requirement to provide TM-33-18 data

DLC will require PPID and SQD data exported according to the TM-33-18 standard.

05 Family series application

DLC will accept Family series applications for plant lights to reduce testing burden and application fees.

Requirements for a product as a Family

Must use the same LED;

Must have identical structure, including electrical, optical, and thermal structures;

May include different drivers;

May include different mounting brackets, provided heat dissipation is not affected;

Must include the complete and detailed model name;

A model name can correspond to only one brand; when a product is sold under multiple brands, the model name must be appropriately distinguished.

06

Private Label Column Name Application

DLC will accept applications for the Private Label listing of plant lights.
