This French Micro LED company plans to invest €140 million to build a production line, with production starting in 2022!

According to foreign media reports, Aledia, a French-headquartered 3D GaN LED developer, announced plans to establish an LED production facility in Champagnier near Grenoble, France, with an investment of €140 million.

Aledia plans to begin LED production in 2022; at that time, the company will also complete its micro-display manufacturing process and start offering Micro LED micro-displays.

Aledia has developed a Micro LED manufacturing process based on a unique 3D structure using silicon-based gallium nitride nanowires (GaN-on-silicon nanowires), trademarked as 'WireLED'.

In the past, Aledia used Micro LED R&D equipment manufactured by Veeco; Veeco is very likely to also provide mass production equipment for the new production line for the company.

Aledia is a company spun off from the French research institution Cea-Leti, founded in 2011. In 2018, Aledia raised $36 million in its Series C funding round. Reports indicate it remains uncertain whether Aledia has secured the €140 million needed for a new production line.
