Sanan Optoelectronics Changsha Third-Generation Semiconductor Project Commences Construction, with a Total Investment of 16 Billion Yuan

On the morning of July 20, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Changsha Sanan third-generation semiconductor project was held in the Changsha High-Tech Zone. Hu Henghua, member of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Changsha Municipal Party Committee, announced the commencement of construction. Zheng Jianxin, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Mayor, and Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Hunan Xiangjiang New Area, and Lin Xiucheng, Chairman of Sanan Group, attended the event. Lin Kechuang, General Manager of Sanan Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., and municipal leaders Liao Jianhua and Qiu Jixing also attended.

Currently, third-generation semiconductor materials and devices have become one of the frontiers and high points of the global semiconductor material industry. Third-generation semiconductor mature commercial materials, represented by SiC and GaN, have important application value in fields such as new energy vehicles, 5G, smart grids, high-speed rail transit, semiconductor lighting, consumer electronics, and aerospace.

It is understood that Sanan Optoelectronics is a leading enterprise in III-V compound semiconductors and integrated circuits. The Changsha Sanan third-generation semiconductor project, which has commenced construction, has a total investment of 16 billion yuan and covers an area of 1,000 mu. It mainly builds a production base for substrates (SiC), epitaxy, chips, and packaging with independent intellectual property rights. After the project is completed and reaches full production capacity, it will form an industry scale exceeding 10 billion yuan, and drive the output value of upstream and downstream supporting industries to exceed 100 billion yuan.

It is reported that the global compound semiconductor integrated circuit market is currently dominated by traditional major manufacturers in Europe and the United States. Driven by increased support for the domestic integrated circuit industry, domestic manufacturers are actively seeking cooperation with domestic semiconductor suppliers to enhance the security and stability of their semiconductor supply chains.

CICC previously analyzed that, benefiting from the import substitution trend, Sanan Optoelectronics, as a leading domestic compound semiconductor company, is expected to be among the first to benefit from the shift of domestic customer orders. Based on the company's existing three major product lines, we are more optimistic about its layout in third-generation compound semiconductors, GaN and SiC.

From the company's announcement to the official commencement of construction, only a little over one month elapsed, marking remarkably rapid progress. On June 16 this year, Sanan Optoelectronics announced that it had signed an "Investment Project Construction Contract" with the Management Committee of Changsha High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, deciding to establish a subsidiary within the zone to invest RMB 16 billion in the project. The implementing entity will be the proposed Changsha holding subsidiary, which will engage in the R&D, production, and sales of 6-inch SiC conductive substrates, 4-inch semi-insulating substrates, SiC diode epitaxy, SiC MOSFET epitaxy, SiC diode epitaxial chips, SiC MOSFET chips, packaged SiC diodes, and packaged SiC MOSFETs.

Sanan Optoelectronics has stated that the company is committed to the development of its compound semiconductor integrated circuit business, striving to build a semiconductor manufacturer with international competitiveness. The third-generation semiconductor industrial park project has broad market demand and is currently in the development stage.

Sanan Integrated Circuit mainly provides compound semiconductor wafer foundry services, with process capabilities covering products in four areas: microwave RF, power electronics, optical communications, and filters. To strengthen its compound semiconductor business, Sanan Optoelectronics will introduce Gree Electric Appliances and Xian Dao Gaoxin in its announced private placement plan, with the two companies investing RMB 2 billion and RMB 5 billion respectively.

The latter two will thereby enter the company's top ten shareholders. With the commencement of construction and subsequent production of Sanan's third-generation semiconductor project in Changsha, it is expected to address this domestic "shortcoming".

The Changsha Sanan third-generation semiconductor project is one of the 81 Industry projects arranged by the Changsha High-Tech Zone this year. Since February this year, the Changsha High-Tech Zone has actively responded to the requirements of the "Work Hard for 100 Days to Achieve Double Over Half" competition, efficiently advancing project construction, with 12 projects already achieving early commencement and completion.

In his address, Zheng Jianxin stated that the Changsha Sanan third-generation semiconductor project, as one of the 17 landmark manufacturing projects in Changsha, will establish a complete SiC industry chain in Changsha, covering crystal growth, substrate fabrication, epitaxy, chip manufacturing, and packaging. It is bound to become a major driving force for the development of Changsha's next-generation semiconductor and integrated circuit supply chain.

MTC Optoelectronics Industrial Park officially breaks ground, settling in Guzhen

On July 20, the groundbreaking ceremony for the MTC Optoelectronics Industrial Park was held. Attendees included Kuang Zhi, Party Secretary of Guzhen Town; Ruan Zhili, Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor of Guzhen Town; Xu Yongzhe, Deputy Director of the Zhongshan Municipal Bureau of Industry and Information Technology; heads of relevant government departments in Guzhen Town; Quan Jinsong, Vice Chairman of MTC Group; Ou Jun, President of MTC Group; and representatives from the construction contractors.

It is reported that the MTC Optoelectronics Industrial Park project covers two plots totaling 119.88 mu, with 50-year industrial land use rights at a price of 500,000 yuan per mu. The total auction price amounted to 59.94 million yuan. The planned scale is an industrial park of 280,000 square meters, with an estimated output value of 10 billion yuan within five years after production begins.

Gu Wei, Chairman of MTC Co., Ltd., stated that the total planned construction area of the MTC Optoelectronics Industrial Park project exceeds 280,000 square meters, with completion and production expected in the second half of 2021. The goal is to build the largest lighting and decorative lighting base in Zhongshan. Once operational, it will become the most important production base in MTC Group's LED supply chain, making a significant contribution to the development of the supply chain. After the park is completed, MTC Optoelectronics aims to achieve a total output value of RMB 10 billion within five years, generate tax revenue exceeding RMB 400 million, and create over 10,000 jobs, making due contributions to Zhongshan and Guzhen. As a key equipment manufacturing project on the west bank of the Pearl River, this project will inject tremendous vitality and energy into Zhongshan's lighting industry and manufacturing industry, demonstrating full confidence, determination, and sincerity in completing the project.

Ruan Zhili, Deputy Secretary of the Town Party Committee and Mayor of Guzhen, stated that in recent years, Guzhen has remained steadfast in its strategy of strengthening the town through industry and has actively participated in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Guzhen is becoming a new hotspot for investment in intelligent manufacturing, big data, and artificial intelligence, attracting major projects such as the MTC Optoelectronics Industrial Park. As a key municipal project, the MTC Optoelectronics Industrial Park involves an investment of 600 million yuan by Zhongshan MTC Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. It focuses on the R&D, production, and domestic and international business operations of lighting and decorative lighting products, carefully laying out LED chip packaging production lines to build an intelligent, modern, and automated industrial park that will serve as the company headquarters. The implementation and construction of the MTC Optoelectronics Industrial Park project will continuously improve and extend Guzhen's decorative lighting industry chain, accelerating industrial transformation and upgrading.
