Global Lighting Events Postponed/Cancelled

The MWC 2020 (World Mobile Congress), which was of greater concern to lighting professionals and originally scheduled for February, is the first large-scale exhibition cancelled due to the pandemic. This marks the first time in MWC's 33-year history that it has been cancelled due to force majeure. According to reports, the cancellation of the exhibition resulted in a direct loss of approximately $536 million. Exhibiting companies also suffered significant losses themselves.

Additionally, other exhibitions directly cancelled include the Tokyo International Lighting & LED Exhibition in Japan.

The Frankfurt Light + Building exhibition, originally scheduled to be held from March 8-13, has now been confirmed for new dates: September 27 to October 2. Additionally, as previously reported by China Lighting Network, its sister event held concurrently, the Luminale light festival celebrating lighting technology and art, has also been cancelled.

The organizer of LightFair International 2020 (US International Lighting Exhibition), the largest exhibition in the US lighting industry to be held in early May in Las Vegas, has announced a postponement of the event until late summer or early autumn 2020; specific dates have not yet been released.

Another major U.S. exhibition, LEDucation, originally scheduled for March 17–18 in New York as a popular showcase for architectural lighting, has been rescheduled to August.

In our country, the Hong Kong Spring Decorative Lighting Exhibition, scheduled for April, has been announced to be postponed to July 25–28.

The Guzhen International Decorative Lighting Expo originally scheduled for March 18-21, 2020 has been postponed. However, the exhibition innovatively adopted a 'Cloud Gathering' approach; while the event was delayed, it did not extend its duration. Its '2020 Online Guzhen Lighting Expo e-Purchase Station' officially launched on March 18 via the expo's official integrated B2B website, 'Decorative Lighting Online Denggle.com'.

Additionally, the Shanghai International Commercial and Engineering Lighting Exhibition will be postponed to August 12-14.

The China Road Lighting Forum originally scheduled to be held in Xiamen in April has been delayed; the specific date has not yet been announced.

The Beijing International Smart Agricultural Equipment and Technology Expo, originally scheduled to be held from April 13-15, attended by manufacturers and users related to agricultural lighting, has been postponed indefinitely.

The China Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics Expo (AWE) announced it will be postponed for one year and merged with AWE2021, to be held in March 2021.

CES Asia (Consumer Electronics Show Asia), originally scheduled to be held from June 10 to 12, 2020, in Shanghai, China, will be postponed.

As the barometer of the lighting and LED industry, the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) currently has no plans to postpone; the exhibition dates remain scheduled for June 9-12.

In the UK, the Sustainability Conference — Lighting and Circular Economy conference, scheduled for this week, will be held in London on October 22.

The March lighting exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia, has been postponed to August 26-28; the March new energy lighting power exhibition in Indonesia has also been postponed to August 26-28.

The Thailand June Lighting Exhibition has been postponed to October 7-9.

Currently, exhibitions that have been cancelled or postponed are mainly concentrated at the end of the first quarter and the beginning to mid of the second quarter this year. The sudden outbreak of the epidemic has affected both exhibition organizers and exhibitors (preliminary expenses, product display, work plans, etc.) to varying degrees.
