Osram and Dongbei Optoelectronics Sign White LED Patent Licensing Agreement

  German Osram recently signed a patent licensing agreement with Taiwan LED manufacturer Dongbei Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., authorizing it to use Osram's core patented technology on phosphor-converted light-emitting LEDs to produce white LED light-emitting devices. This technology is widely used in the LED industry for the production of white LED products. Its principle is that part of the blue light emitted by the blue LED chip, after being color-converted by phosphor, mixes with the unconverted blue light to form white light.
  
  As a result, Dongbei Optoelectronics has become one of several white LED packaging manufacturers licensed under Osram's core LED technology patent. To date, more than 20 LED manufacturers active in the global market have obtained Osram's core white LED patent license.
  
  At the same time, Osram agreed to withdraw its related patent infringement lawsuit against Asus, a customer of Dongbei Optoelectronics, in Germany. In the first half of 2015, the Düsseldorf Regional Court in Germany, upon Osram's application, issued an injunction against Asus and ruled that Asus should pay infringement compensation to Osram. Asus has appealed the ruling.
  
Dr. Dieter Boss, head of patent licensing at OSRAM, stated: "OSRAM holds strong patent advantages in LED technology. We welcome Dongbei's entry into OSRAM's white LED patent licensing program. We also remind LED manufacturers who use OSRAM's relevant white LED patents without OSRAM's authorization that OSRAM will continue to actively safeguard and exercise its patent rights."
